ad lurchers over 30 years got a pup at the noment wont pick arabbit up any tips doesnt seem interested

try guting one and leave the skin on it and dont feed it till it eats it

Get a rabbit skin, fill it up with some thing like an old hard glove, tie it around firmly so its quite solid, then tie a 20ft piece of rope to that. Take dog into own territory like garden or somewhere it knows, keep teasing the dog with the skin to get it to lunge at it, get it a bit agitated then keep hold of the rope end and let the skin go away the legth of the rope.the dog will lunge at the skin, wriggle it and when the dog grabs it pull on the rope hard so the skin moves.keep doing it say 5 times at first .and the dog will soon get the hang of it. If everyone did it from 6 weeks old dogs get the hang of picking up and returning to you with anything pretty quick.sometimes a dog wont pick up a rabbit when its dead,even when they have killed it, they dont have the adrenalin in their bode to get stuck in so they ll lose interest, but it really does work with the skin and the rope. Its a lot of extra work but its great fun as well and you really get to know your dog when you play withit. They have so much work all the time it does them good to play, and then it follows through for real . hope your dog comes on ok. As for letting it eat a rabbit its caught I really wouldnt or one day it could hunt up and run away with its kill and eat it.
