There used to be a show and sale at Trimdon. Is that still on the go. I've bought some good birds there in the past.

I've bought some good birds there in the past. I don’t know. I used to race whippets at Trimdon Grange many years ago. There were a lot of tracks in that area, all gone now, as is Easington greyhound track. Seghill is local to me. Cheers.

They questioned why some birds were panicked and flying against the wire of their cages. He patiently explained that the birds were only used to him being in his shed, not two policemen shining torches. Some of his birds were not ringed, which is legal. The sale of unringed birds is illegal. Fortunately he had photos of the birds in the nest. But he was really stressed and worried by the raid. Talk about police priorities! We used to sell eggs to the breeders when I was at school bully’s and goldies was what everyone wanted only take one egg per nest and put it under the aviary birds to hatch out

Haswell was like a 1980's Exchange & Mart come to life,a car boot sale of fur,fin and feather with a hint of Southeby's,as interesting for the characters who attended as the creatures sold.
Greyman 28,627 Posted yesterday at 16:42 Report Share Posted yesterday at 16:42 Used to be a place like that just outside Bristol, it was called Winford market you could buy anything from old rubble sacks and bits of bailer twine up to a Hereford bull, the Indians were mad keen on the fighting cocks back then good times
jukel123 8,292 Posted yesterday at 17:14 Author Report Share Posted yesterday at 17:14 There was an auction in Carlisle every Saturday morning at Dalton's mart. The livestock section used to draw eccentrics, me included. Bantams, ducks canaries, budgies, ferrets, rabbits guinea pigs were always on sale. The bidders and observers were an odd mix of Greengrasses, gypsies, tyre kickers and lurcher and terrier men. It was a good place to chat with fellow lurcher men and great for socialising pups. My lads said it was one of their favourite childhood memories. One of them had a vicious dog ferret which he put into auction. The auctioneer had an assistant who would always hold up ferrets for people to inspect. The inevitable happened and the ferret took his thumb in a vice like grip. He'd been warned it shouldn't be handled, so it was his fault. He spotted us doubled up laughing and told us not to come back. We body swerved it the following week but attended normally after that. Lol. Its a car park now. Shame.
