I think the mains water had burst and sent water flying. It then froze instantly.

There were red deer driven off the hills trying to find some low lying feed around keswick. Plenty of ravens. The mountain rescue were out. Bloke had broken an ankle. Nothing but respect for those guys....all volunteers.

Get across to Helvelyn, there's a local ski club over there with a (ahem) lift Be careful of the overhang, many have died not realising it's about as safe as finger banging a lion.

Looks nice weather for a good walk out that. I spy 'Halls fell ridge' in the back there. I don't think it's too technical in normal conditions but I should imagine it's a decent test when covered in snow inside ice! I'm pretty sure some unfortunate fella fell off sharp edge just along the side of Blencather over the hollidays. Hope you enjoy your stay away mate!

When I was young I climbed Blencather, Helvelyn, and Scafell and thought nothing of it. I climbed Skiddaw yesterday ( described as a grannys walk) and my knees are on fire.Lol 1
WILF 47,624
I always loved the Lake District, I first met a young Stiffmiester 20 years ago on the Mayors Hunt and we have been pals ever since. I have holidayed there, hunted there, fished there…..it just makes your soul feel good.
jukel123 8,658
It's impossible not to feel 'high' on the blue sky and the special light that's reflected from the snow. It seems everyone you meet is in a good mood I met a bloke from California a few years back, he was in his sixties and within weeks of arriving in Scotland he was incapacitated with severe depression . He'd never suffered from it before. Doctor prescribed a UV light box...total cure.
