We live at Fishlake Doncaster, flooded once in 200years or summat daft. Now it's 3 or 4 times a year the river breaks its banks. Just gone to flood warning now again. I know we have had a bit of snow and a bit of rain but it wasn't exactly biblical. Seems to be a regular occurrence all over the country aswell. 2 Quote Link to post Share on other sites

Haven't they stopped dredging the or so in england and that's causing major problems with flooding ? im sure a farmer dredged the river on his farm after it was repeatedly flooding and got done for it 1 Quote Link to post Share on other sites

The EA reckon it costs circa £1m per half mile to dredge a tidal river.....so they don't do it and we all flood 1 Quote Link to post Share on other sites

Supposedly around 1960 the run off from Penistone to doncaster was 3days, now it is less than 24hrs That’s a massive change. Water will always flow, ebb, change but naturally it wants to soak down. Take that away even by 25% and you’ve reduced the soak rate by 75% (based on rules of absorption). It’s like a dry sponge. Takes the water, then drips down excess, keep running the tap on a small sponge and it overflows. The sponge is still doing what it does but less effectively. vfr400boy 3,452 Posted January 6 Report Share Posted January 6 Was a good job then the bosses changed and all vehicles got trackers etc , you could choose if you wanted to work weekends and how many hours so you made it fit with family life , but when they fixed it to 10 hours on a Saturday in summer balls to that , a good few of the lads have left now as it knackers up your summer , Quote Link to post Share on other sites
