Then to save waiting for something that may not come around, why not breed your own ? Find a greyhound or even better a lurcher that's already doing the job ,and put it across the pure that you have??? Run a couple on yourself, find homes or cull the waste???

That way then you got what your after....

The pure bitch had something wrong with her milk Iv looked at that and it’s not possible

I wouldn’t be looking if I thought was chance of breeding my own she does everything I want just not got the pace ,

you need to be using a greyhound really think anything with less than half grey is going to struggle out on the hill

also you can’t run more than one pup on the hill it doesn’t work people have tried and failed it don’t work

Just been down my mates to finish installing and lineing his kennels out.His pups are like donkeys now 25yrs and 8mths old but nice things.

Well ranging out is in there nature ,infact ranging out and never coming back is a speciality

Yep I’ve been out with 2 pups and also 2 young dogs. Until they know what it’s all about then they just mess about. If you got the time then taking them out separate works. Ferreting, lamping I’m happy to take a young dog out by itself and learn the ropes. Hill work is easier if you have an older dog ranging out doing the job. Young dog will normally follow. I’m talking from the point of view that my Lurchers don’t have hound or pointer in them so ranging out doesn’t come naturally. If I was only doing hill work then I would be looking at hound or GWP cross. Nothing with less than half running dog though. Hill dog to hill dog. Was offered to put a full GWP over my bitch but think it would be hard to home pups as they don’t suit most. I’d never breed with the view of culling pups either.

Pups need as much time learning as possible and if there’s two pups there going to mess about and play and not learn , as white van said you need a older experienced dog doing the job for pup to follow , its not a simple as getting a pup and just take it out ,

There’s boys on here with a lot more knowledge than me mate. Just find if they are playing about then they don’t even pick the scent up to start with. If they are used for other lurcher work then it’s not natural for them to cast out looking for scent in the first place. It’s all done on sight. I’d be looking at them working/nose to the ground a good couple of hundred metres away. Possible more. Once on scent they will just go. Once they see something then get the binos out or look at the trackers!

Funny you should say that Blacky. This is going to be music to MC Hulls ears. One my dogs got 1/4 saluki in him. 1/8 collie and the rest grew. He’s 11 now and still putting in the miles. When he’s running on rocks or tricky ground I don’t think it’s the 1/8 collie that helps. Really good coat on him too. We’ve always had a funny relationship but I’ll put that down to the 1/4 saluki!!
