I have the cz 527 varmint .223 laminated and your right.The trigger is Shite....Untill you take the creep out adjust the pull weight and take out the over travel which is so easy i could even do it...The instuctions are in the cz website.seriously it is easy...

The trigger is now spot on and the rifle is shootin touching holes 1/2-3/4 5 rnds with factory load 64gn fed power shock..And loves hornady 40gr v-max..

This rifle is a keeper..

Fully agree, I've also got the CZ 527 .223 varmint laminated, one evening with a screwdriver and the trigger is spot on. Very easy to do, the instructions supplied were really easy to follow. Groups at 200 yds with homeload 40 grain Silver Tips are pretty impressive.

Next thing to do is order a trigger kit for my CZ 452.

hi all i have a tikka t3 stainless varmint in 22-250 fitted with a t8 mod and its a good bit of kit. but i must admit when i first got it i had problems with 55 grain bullets and could only get 4 inch groups,but when i switched to lighter 50 grain bullets i was getting 1/2 to 3/4 inch groups with factory ammo at 100 yards that was due to the twist in the barrel not stabalizing the heavier bullets. ive had this rifle for about 2 years now and its bin a 100% reliable.also just had the barrel shortened to make it a bit handier in the truck and havnt noticed any difference in accuracy, but its made the rifle very much more user friendly .all in all i cant knock the t3 and a reasonable price to. just my experiences regards NUTSHOT.....

well, I sent a PM to baz complaining about my posts being deleted, so he has now kicked me off the firearms forum. FFS! What a pr1ck!

 

And on the rifle front, looking like a CZ, out with Deker last night and could have done with a detachable mag so I could see how many were left, and whack a few more in. That makes CZ or Tikka, and I'm avoiding Tikka, so decision made really

I'm think of getting one but it looks as if everyone is going for European makes, is there reason for this?.

Plenty of people I hear they are good rifles, and every time I look at one I am impressed. I am fairly sure I want a detachable mag, which Remmy don't do But the trigger is good, accuracy is good and they don't cost the earth - definitely worth a look.

I've got a 700 SPS .223. I had the trigger brought down to 2 pounds to match my other rifles, and it shoots better for it. Gun balance changes dramatically with a T8 on it, but still very shootable. It hates remington ammo, loves Winchester 55g. Anything else I can tell you?

I've a Remington model 700 VL SS, I like it a lot. Been a while since I grouped but best group I've got with inexpensive factory stuff (Federal 50 grain hollow point bulk pack) has been just a hair over 1/2 inch at 100 yards. Usual was 3/4 inch at 100 yards. Probably do better with the more expensive stuff.

All comes down to the rifle in question and the bullet weight, As i stated before i have a tikka m595, and so do a few others i know, and while at the range one day a friend was fireing 100gr hornady's to about 1/2 inch grouping, i've tried in vain to get the 100 grain's to fire in my rifle and it just doesn't like them, however if i dropdown to 95 grain then it's an absolute 1/2 inch grouper, strange,

As for the bolt handles breaking that sounds very strange to me, So i would suggest shooting the newer t3 with a few different rounds to see how it can perform, then it's all down to the man behind the rifle doing his job!!

I'd not heard of the bolt handle issues. I had heard tales of tikka Varmints that were 5" group at 100 yards at best, one guy apparently swapped his Tikka for another, they both did, unsurprisingly he gave up with them and got a Remington...

 

I would suggest now is not the time to get a Tikka, although the Tactical still seems to be OK.

 

 

 

The Bolt is news to me as well and somehow I just don't go with comments "my mate says....."

 

5" groups and changing the gun, he should have tried changing the ammo first...simple!

 

There are horror stories about Tikka, Sako, Remington, CZ, Savage, Howa, Winchester, Steyr, Ruger etc etc. Sadly things do go wrong and sometimes individually, and sometimes in batches, and it is of course very unfortunate when this happens.

 

MOST of the horror stories outlined go, I've heard...., my mate....., I know someone...., very few are from owners of the individual tools, most of the owners are saying how GOOD their tools are!

Since they deleted my thread at AirgunBBS, I could now use the advice of all those on this forum :-)

 

I am in the process of changing my Sako 75 22-250 Varmint for a 223. I had decided that I wanted a 1:9 twist barrel so I could shoot heavier bullets, but having had a look at a Howa with a thumbhole stock at around the price, I am prepared to put up with 1:12, unless I can get the right rifle in 1:9.

 

Thus far my options:

 

1. Remington 700, either LTR, SPS Varmint or SPS Tactical. SPS Tactical appears to be good, and also cheap, which is a bonus.

 

2. CZ 527 Laminate Varmint, looks useful but I don't like their trigger.

 

3. Savage 10FP. Not heard too much, most people seem to say accurate, but needs a better stock - thoughts?

 

4. Howa 1500 Thumbhole Varmint Supreme. Handles well, good trigger, but 1:12.

 

Think I've dismissed the Tikka option as a lot of people seem to have had trouble with them lately.

It'd do around an inch at 100 yards on average with the type it liked, then anything out to 3 1/2 inch groups with other types. I blame the barrel on that particular rifle.

Ooooh, that's pretty horrible. The odd bad report with Tikka makes me think of CZ, because apart from the trigger, I never hear "i have/had a CZ and it didn't group" - they are always accurate rifles. Just with a somewhat suspect trigger...
