I was just discussing that. New Years eve in Edinburgh is absolutely huge. The decision will lose a lot of money for a lot of people.

Pathetic really , the idea that high winds causing structural collapse on buildings etc is accounted for in the construction , so it’s the fact that the temporary structures etc are now off . 
 

Wonder how many hotel rooms etc will have been booked for months by people making significant journeys ?

It’s exactly the same here. Difference is, they fight back and will buy from the Catalan green grocer’s and not the immigrant owned one next door. It’s weird here actually. In Cataluña, the Pakistanis will own shops, butchers, barbers, veg shops etc and the Chinese have the bars. In Madrid it’s the complete reverse.

Isn’t it indicative of the terminal decline of the UK that New Years celebrations have been cancelled because of the weather ?
I can see the Tyne from my house and live a couple of miles from the quayside. I’ve been out for a walk with the dog and yes it’s a bit windy and raining but nothing serious. 
Im guessing countries like Canada, Norway , Finland, Iceland will all have firework displays and celebrations with far more inclement weather than we have !

My lady always says for a nation with such temperate a climate brits sure do like talking about how bad their weather is,here a foot of snow is business as usual.

As for the UK's decline its a gradual erosion,keep chipping away and soon it won't be happy news years eve but new years EID.Hogmanay used to be a huge event,first footing,times are changing for the worse.

Been to the street party a few times back in the day. Folks come from all over the world for it. Some pretty disgruntled punters tonight. Public transport in and out of Edinburgh is a shambles at the best of times, add in the holiday and a bit of bad weather it’s a recipe for disaster.
