Never really owned a world beater though owned a few handy lurchers in the past with a touch of collie in them. 1 Quote Link to post

I and l expect others keep clicking on the new posts hoping to see a bit of interesting input . I guess Tomo you do need half crosses to produce 3/4 or line bred collie lurchers I've had other crosses but to be honest a first cross has always done what l needed. And my dogs have always been expected to do a lot more than simply chase stuff . A knowing Victorian writer wrote something along the lines of " a man might not select the best dog but instead choose the one that will bring less attention " Recent experiences also has me thinking that the border collie might not be the best choice for producing the "greyhound- sheepdog cross" of history. I'm tempted to find out. 3 Quote Link to post

tatsblisters 9,676
The first cross bitch i had some years back was very easy to live with and a good natured dog but just did not have the early pace to snap rabbits up in the lamp local the young lad who i gifted her to kept her till she died of old age and was happy with her going rabbiting and lamping up in the dales. Her litter brother that made 25tts was a decent lamp dog even local. She only leveld out at 22tts. Though being honest she would suit me nowadays just mooching about in local woodland though not as a catch dog more of a companion. 5 Quote Link to post

Any more than a first cross would be any good in the coursing field. I am a bit biased though Tomo. Having grown up in a crowded bit of countryside with small fields and not a hare for 50 miles l only needed something fast enough for the two Rs, steady enough for "various" and sneaky enough not to gather attention . Sheep dog cross does for me, obviously not you Tomo. Neither of us is wrong, just different . 6 Quote Link to post

mark williams 7,552
Collie lurcher - clever is not the word for these dogs , I` d have one as a gun dog any day of the week, however a German short haired pointer is a marvelous airgun hunters dog, a total all rounder of a dog , bar , coursing mind. I` ve seen collie lurchers turn their nose up at certain situations in coursing because they knew what to expect from the run they were about to take on they are annoyingly clever dogs at times, I have seen this many times they will actually refuse the chase , I was once great friends with some traveller lads, boy they new their lurcher dogs, the best lurcher I ever owned was a ferocious little fella called Brett, a cross between a Whippet, , Jack Russell, bitch, he was like jaws out of water. heres my GSP working lads, he lives to work he adores it he's nearly 11yrs old now. 1 Quote Link to post

Told him what are kid said because he felt for her running back home. Meaning swap her back. But a deals a deal. He wanted her for up dales the whippet I wanted the dog with abit of collie in for bigger land. Both was happy. Then that simple twat says " is it because it was Trev you wouldn't be able to do that to Trev. But anybody else wouldn't had got her back. We both come too an agreement does matter who it had have been. A deals a deal. Mc was just looking to carry something on like play ground shit. Past few night have been great for being out he's sat on here writing shite. Quote Link to post
