Hi, yeah, I would probably have met the Guy,...I seemed to cross paths with the majority of folk mentioned in the early jottings , books, articles, etc....

Facts were, back then, I used to get about a bit ,...I always had an almost perverse urge to meet various people, described as being, genuine hunting men...

It took me a few years,.. but, I eventually grew out of it,...I stopped searching for heroes, and then everything became, a whole lot clearer...😉

Back Then, heroes were often created by people with very little knowledge putting people with a bit more knowledge on a pedestal that was usually far to high for there accolades, Today Heroes are created by the keyboard and the click of a mouse Lol.

the army isn’t a case of you join up and you return two decades later with bad knees , a drinking problem and bad attitude

if I so wished , I could have taken my dog anywhere baring foreign deployments , to Kenya Afghanistan’s etc . Postings to the north of Scotland are sought after by a lot of my mates so they can get out after the deer , two of my mates , still serving , have venison butchery businesses .

once you reach a certain competence and experience , I can often pick and choose my working hours . It isn’t dads army , you get a task , how you complete it is up to you , and in general you le weekends are your own .

my working pattern last three weeks  has been

sundayvafternoon - weds night .literally trapped in the office until then

week after , Tuesday , weds , Thursday

last week Monday - Thursday

weds afternoons are for sports and when you factor phys , meetings , maintenance into it .your actual work quality becomes critical.

i know several lads who live to shoot and fish and until recently the army had an active foxhound pack . The idea you can’t keep a dog , quite frankly is laughable.

no different to a lad working away or driving a wagon

Even more so when you consider the huge amount of lads who live close by , fo example living in west London or Southampton , and working in tidworth or working in catterick and living up in the north east or yorks . It’s just a job

There use to be a few opportunities i can remember, One was on the BCU (Bird Control Unit) on airfields, Scaring birds and controlling Mammal's were the job, so BOP, Dogs, Guns, Traps and gas guns were used. The other one would have been as Range warden, Again mas swathes of countryside with little to no access to the public. Probably no long done by servicemen but contracted out to some civilian company or other nowadays. There has always been a few dog men in the police force but that's another topic Lol.
