Phil Rat shooting is what i like best phil Prefere it to all other shooting, I had a great rat farm that i shot hundreds on but lost it for some reason a about 2 years ago, This perm is a pals and theres about 8 different areas to it that are crawling with rats, should be great shooting for him for a long while. I totally agree with you, we had a perm where we shot around 1100 rats per year, fantastic winter sport but then the dairy farm cleaned up its act fitting off the ground feeders, released some feral cats which bred so now there is about 25 cats and the rats have gone. We are just waiting for some feedback from the council as they have major issues with rats at their waste depot with rats chewing through power cables, huge numbers and now almost imune to the poisons so we are in with a chance again. big napper 3,619
Good luck with that then pal hope you get it, shootings the best way to get rid of them i think, shooting at night and terriers in the day if the place is safe enough for them to work. Good luck pal 1 Quote Link to post

Phil I think cats are fairly useless as far as large numbers of rats are concerned. Ive watched them in the thermal doing nothing whilst rats are just everywhere. They might do a couple but are too layed back to do numbers. Air rifles or terriers are very effective alternative to expensive poisons. 2 Quote Link to post

I do agree with you but the change of cattle feedes simply removed much of the food source so the rats moved away and the cats keep numbers down now as there is only a fraction of the population of rats there now. They are too busy shaggin and fighting each other. If one animal sees another as a food source they dont usually wipe them out cos there too busy eating one. Cats by habit dont kill numbers, like terriers do, and if a place is devoid of rats/mice the cats are redundant and so you have to feed them to keep them in which case they dont need to hunt rats and mice are easier for a bit of sport. Get terriers in I say and do the rats and then the cats!! good sport. 1 Quote Link to post
