No better feeling than bringing a dog on from a pup...giving them a spin at 10/11 month old and  watching it take it's first rabbit/fox/deer etc...no drug comes close Neck😔

A pic of a few dogs owned by London lads in the past. The white bitch was the litter sister to the great grand dam to lucky the dark destroyer i believe. The brindle bitch was a fx saluki greyhound.

Mate my Wheaton x bitch is 27 tts and 80/90 lb fighting weight...had her out ferreting from first jabs with longnets etc, around the harris/gos hawks, she's done everything you would use a whippet/smal

This is out of the same dam, but sire is a non-ped whippet scratch dog. One of the fastest dogs in the country at the time;

I’d guess they have completely different running styles, the saluki type more of a stayer, this one more of an up and at ‘em type.

But that’s just conjecture on my part .

Cheers.

Oddly enough mate my dad says that I’ve gone to pay for dogs and he’s gone insane when I’ve told him the prices I’ve paid

he always says it’s working mans sport so they should be working mans price

saying that he was murder years ago when he would look at the litter he would normally buy half the litter and normally either the sire or the dam if he could

he went to check litter out years ago in the mid 70s down Southampton way and the family who had these dogs oddly enough they was all saluki hybrids and when he arrived at the farm they lived on they should him a building next to the barn with what I was told by he’s friend who was with him

that there was more fallow racks on the wall then they have ever seen before and as they turned around to walk a truck pulled up with two fallow bucks in the back and one the blokes sons with the sire to the litter

my dad being a taxidermist at the time wasn’t short on cash and just said how much for the litter and I’ll pay 500 for the sire now !!!

needless to say all the pups my dad gifted to he’s mates and he kept one and the sire

Remember a few London lads having taxidermy done by the well known at the time taxidermist up here called Graham Teasdale.

All changed now mate

few years ago went to see he’s friend who was dying and was bed bound walked in this massive bungalow up on the fens

all I can say was f**k me it was like a zoo of taxidermy lol

which he all mounted

when he passed he left it all to me and my dad

my dad just said to he’s partner you sell em and keep the money

It did go through a phase in the late 80s early 90s and most dog lads I knew had some thing taxidermy hung off their walls. I had a good roebuck head mounted on my kitchen wall took by my first cross saluki greyhound out of Luke from the Selby area. I remember having to take it off the wall and putting it away when the kids had their mates round for birthday parties. 😆

I remember my daughter taking a stuffed badger to school well over 40 years ago for “show & tell”.

The teacher was very happy with it and spent a whole lesson teaching about British wild life.

If that was today, I’d get a visit from the police and social services would take my kids into care !

How times have changed .

Cheers.

One of our teachers used to take rabbits off those who hunted them, he did the same off kids who were at the highschool way back in the 80's, Mr Valentine. A rumour went around that one lad once skinned a cat and he ate it, bollocks! Lol
