It's not the sport, how many farmers wipe them out with guns to prevent lads running them, that has been happening for ages now.

Keeper's with night vision are also wiping them out in numbers. Remember talking to a keeper who used to keeper up near the Flouch Inn bladdering the hare's with a .17mm rifle and night vision i said what for ffs  one of his exscuses hare's were running through the game crop disturbing the birds.

No better feeling than bringing a dog on from a pup...giving them a spin at 10/11 month old and  watching it take it's first rabbit/fox/deer etc...no drug comes close Neck😔

A pic of a few dogs owned by London lads in the past. The white bitch was the litter sister to the great grand dam to lucky the dark destroyer i believe. The brindle bitch was a fx saluki greyhound.

I’m pleased to say hares are thriving round here.

Theres allways been plenty, this is the land where the the greatest Waterloo Cup dog, Fullerton , was raised and schooled.

Now they are coming down from the fells onto local fields that are being left for “re-wilding”, along with plenty roe.

Its fairly normal to see 20’s and odd times up to 30 on a couple of fields when lamping.

It wasn’t long ago I took five from one field with an old deer cross lamping, just along the road from me. I could have had more but what was the point, two were taken out the seat.
Concerning hare shoots, I’m neither for nor against them, another man’s sport isn’t my business, but I have been on one hare shoot, it was an end of season beaters day for the keepers and beaters of the pheasant shoot.

Apart from a bit of sport , they say it’s to keep the numbers under control, three hares eat the same amount as one sheep.

The white hare shoots are because the hares carry a tic that affects the grouse.

Not excuses from me, just looking at it from all points of view.

Cheers.

good post mate 5 is good going and you can only be arsed to skin gut so many aye mate shame when wasted

I know of two farms where this happened; one in Northumberland where my brother has ferreting permission, and one in Notts where I was on a partridge shoot.

These farmers were counties apart and had never met, but had the same story; they were sick of getting calls from the police that their stock were loose on the roads due to gates being left open or broken.

Playing “Devils Advocate”, might we not be a bit complicit in destroying our own sport ?
If the farmer doesn’t know you’ve been, they wouldn’t have the excuse for killing all the hares.

Cheers.

Even before the ban mate you had cranky farmers trying to have a go if you were walking the land poaching, but depending on their attitude, after swapping a few unpleasantries, they would let you go on your way. I can understand the farmers carrying out such actions if they were getting hammered by idiots tearing their fields up with motors.

They come over full of bluster but you can soon knock them back down a peg or two and then you're usually parting on good terms. Lol

I bet they're ten times worse now it's the hottest it's ever been? Lol

True mate, poachers turned gamekeepers. Lol

I used to go out with some of the men pictured, ex-lurcher lads now in to shooting and keepering, who are we to judge though, but scores like that will nigh on wipe out local hare populations, bet there's 150+ hares there, madness.
