ye mate as catch dog  for meat on the table be a good choice as i always say brains kills things mate

I've caught winter hares with my collie cross, admittedly I've never ran the fens as that would be pointless when there was plenty to go at locally, have you actually ran the fens back in the day, are they superior to the legendary Hull hares? Lol

As for saluki in a lurcher, there was a cracking litter near Retford the other year of these saluki, collie, bull, greyhounds, they would have been all-round dogs, the parents looked fine examples.

When this dog passes I'm definitely going to get a lurcher for knocking about with, even if it's for the odd run at rabbit and the occasional slip on big ears.

I nearly had my wish a few months back, my dog got splattered on the dual carriageway near my house by a van, 2k later and he survived, b*****d. Lol

A pic of a few dogs owned by London lads in the past. The white bitch was the litter sister to the great grand dam to lucky the dark destroyer i believe. The brindle bitch was a fx saluki greyhound.

First dog chris smiths sally regular 6/6 dog    second dog chris smiths tess beat most dogs in the country sadly lost a match in her old age to one nuttals dogs    the rest are sal

No, he wouldn't be catching multiple hares in one day during the middle of January but his strike rate was good whenever he went out. And this is a dog that wasn't brought on as well as some of the top coursing breds that are trained like thoroughbreds for a meet. That's just a lad that got them fit by walks, imagine how much better the dog would have been with a man that obsesses over a dogs conditioning.

no but this time a year be normal to have a few 4 min plus runs black

them dogs killing them quick threw middle december to feb  don’t exist mate

aye @chartpolskihow would i use a deerhound cross for an all rounder ?

it would be laid up f****d oh broken useless mate

as an all round lamper they are great

but as an  all around lurcher you need saluki in it

what we saying tomo ?

Mate I like coursing dogs....always will even though I don't own one now...

Personally I admit I think there the best ...generally speaking for rabbit hare and and smaller deer...

Big deer fallow bucks and stags...fox..boar etc...then probably something  else

But them coursing dogs brought up right can do other things...

I even used to take mine ferreting...of course she wasn't a patch on the purpose bred collie grew types ..or whippety types at that game...

These two of mine or pretty useful ferreting dogs...and they can catch hares...

But there not going to match a coursing dog on big land on quality hares...

Obviously and it works both ways.

it doesn’t mate i could get a pure saluki off the couch and it would have 4 times the stamina of a lurcher

That's what I'm saying, genetics will trump conditioning within reason.
