Coursing bred runners

Recommended Posts

New to the site but ran dogs most of my life. Enjoying the write ups👍

My first dog was a collie x greyhound(dare I say it Hancock bred) which i worked with ferrets and nets, great wee dog, just wasn't keen on anything other than rabbits and hares.

Then I worked a couple of Saluki bull greyhounds as big pot fillers and had them for a good 10 years, great dogs and was lucky to find those pups when I got them that they had some real good breeding behind them from the Saluki and the bull that was thrown into the mix.

My last dog was a coursing bred Saluki greyhound bitch which I've just recently retired and rehomed with my partners friend who rescues retired greyhounds. Have ran this bitch for over 5 years but she has developed an eye issue and is now blind in one eye. Still a healthy dog and can still catch but she's unsteady at times on rougher ground and I don't feel it's fair on her as she'll come a cropper at some point. Feel better dignify to the dog and give her a good home for the rest of her days.

Without a dog now, doesn't feel right, and keen to pick up a pup from proven stock whenever the right thing comes up. I'm considering sticking with something from coursing stock, just love how laid-back these dogs are and how easy they are to live with. Love the stamina too and I've been surprised over the years I ran this bitch just how much drive she had without having anything else in her other than Saluki greyhound blood.

Seen a litter of pups over the summer, bitch was coursing stock, sire was a dog called sandman, pure saluki I think. I wasn't in the market for a pup then, but I really liked the look of those two dogs and the pups looked strong, big boned pups. Would definitely be in interested in a pup from that sandman dog, seen a few videos of him running, perfect for what I'm looking for. Does anyone know of any similar pups due? Not in a rush, but would pounce on the right thing. Any help appreciated lads👍

A bit of day and a bit of night me lads. Not much got away from my last bitch and I mean that. It's not that the dogs I ran previously couldn't do the same, it's just that the stamina she had meant she just stuck behind everything for so long on a run that unless something got in her way, she would always finish and was a joy to watch and run 👍
