there taking the biggest strength away from the usa there ability to sanction you and ruin your country massive hit for the yanks

Brazil has already said it aligning its currency with western currencies.

Russia is a basket case who had a GDP less than Italy BEFORE it invaded Ukraine.

India has a population explosion it’s struggling to feed its people.

China would go back to the dark ages if it didn’t trade with the west.

Saudi Arabia was invited to join BRICS and went to their last meeting and said “ no thanks”.

BRICS is a currency transfer system between its members, you may want it to be something else, but it isn’t, and once the Russia/Ukraine war ends and Russia is accepted back into the SWIFT system all will be forgotten.

Cheers.

My take on it is that it’s all about world wide electronic currency transfers.

SWIFT is the recognised method of countries making electronic transfers,

When Russia invaded Ukraine , one of the sanctions applied to them was to remove them from the SWIFT system. This made it harder for Russia to buy and sell on the world market.
BRICS, ( Brazil, Russia, India , China), has existed as a trading block since 2009 and since Russia was banned from SWIFT, they decided to set up an electronic money transfer system of their own. All the other members of BRICS, apart from Russia are still members of SWIFT. The new BRICS system will allow Russia to transfer money between BRICS members more efficiently.
It won’t make one iota of difference to our lives  and it certainly won’t herald the end of the US Dollar, the international banking system or the end of capitalism!

It means Russia will be able to send and receive funds for things it buys and sells to the other BRICS members easier and quicker than it does now.
Cheers.

The Federal Reserve has nothing to do with SWIFT.

Do a little research and you will find SWIFT’s major shareholders include Bank of China and HSBC, as well as other banking institutions.

Cheers.

Scotty and mC; you do know that SWIFT is just a messaging service to enable fast transfer of funds between member banks ?

Before SWIFT this was done by telex, SWIFT is faster and more secure, it’s a bit like PayPal but for banks and institutions rather than individuals.
There is IBAN that does the same thing for individuals, I use it regularly.

BRICS will be used by its members but I can’t see the likes of China or the other members, apart from Russia , abandoning SWIFT.

I can’t see what the problem is, there room for both systems but I think SWIFT will be the more popular.

Cheers.

Scotty, do you consider China as part of the “cabal of old banking systems “ ? After all The Bank of China is, even though your previous posts don’t  mention it, are not only members of SWIFT , but shareholders and members of the board of directors .

I think that all the BRIC members , apart from Russia obviously, will remain members of SWIFT, even if they do launch a BRIC’s version. The BRICS version will only be there to accommodate Russias trade with the other BRICS members.

You have your opinions and thought on this very interesting subject, and even though I don’t agree with all of them, I can respect them while having my own thoughts and opinions.

Cheers.
