I know you were just after a bite from Ray, mate, but I’ve seen a few different types on my trips down under, and they do the jobs they are asked to do very well;

Whippets;

’Roo hound with a dash of whippet. As good a fox dog as I’ve seen, but sadly killed when it made the step up to wild boar

Haha true , right. You won't beat a none ped  whippet, my little bitch catch the rabbits in middle of  field  , well before fence and hedgerow. She was 20 in 20 lb, fast agile  on the rabbits  dead quick, even  if by edge she nail  them, they deff great rabbit dogs, and like said the  bigger males  were spot  on, they prob get few knocks true , but still  great on rabbits  at 23in 35lb.  Just like some grews whippet x greys  similar size  to them none ped males.👍

I’ve had em hit most things it ain’t pretty and  carrying dogs off field  and I do believe you ride ya luck  on any given day reg terrain.
but scars still hav no bearing  esp at shows   On ability as shows are for looks and confirmation and a day out

True mate, I've had bust up  never to run again or killed out right  heh running 35 mph in dark can be deadly, but it what I did for 38 years.  Lamping was my main sport, and it still popular  today with  lads don't think  it ever really change , itcdeff wont get safer for the poor old  running dog.

I agree the UK has the best running dogs and terriers and our dogs here come from them mostly, it's just we have developed our own breed in the Oz stag to suit the game and very hard terrain. Get an education on hunting dogs before you make stupid comments next time, you look like a dickhead.

Wait a minute tho pal, if there’s not many saluki’s an folk have never went to trouble of trying them, how do ye know if they wouldn’t do well, many have you tried?

Most whippets iv saw rarely suffered from feet or even nail bed taking punishment, even when the fields are real wet an claggy, I always put it down to the fact they sort of jist skimmed over the top a the ground, that’s what we knew smaller whip x greys as growing up, my ole granda called them top a the ground dogs

There are a few crosses of them in the wheat belt of South oz where it's flat, big land but where I hunted in the hills of NSW they are useless compared to the lighter whippet types on rabbits and the heavier stags on bigger game. I only hunted with dogs for around 45 years so I wouldn't know much.

I spoke to Dan that used be on here  few times with yote hounds ,he said  they basically  greyhound x deerhound,  bre over 100s , might been drop pit in them way back. But just bred  best  to best, and culled hard to keep  good hard working line. 28-30in  up to 100lb, but didn't  like much bigger, great stamina,  good feet, jaw, plenty guts

Almost identical to our stags here Ray but ours would be more likely to have English bull blood if any bull blood at all. The original deer/grey stags are getting rarer because of pig hunters adding other breeds and with their original job as roo and dingo hunters being illegal these days.

I think the pure whippets are a bit fragile for most hunting over here that's why I used 3/4 whippets 1/4 stag. The 1/4 staghound made a big difference in their skin/coat but mostly bush sense and for my hunting areas were the ultimate rabbit dogs.

I was going to try and think of something clever, and get into a silly THL nonsense exchange of words. You almost got me. Did you say your Hail Mary's and make a good Act of Contrition? No matter.

One the 1st lurchers that I seen run got killed when a hare took her across a motorway. She kicked the hare up a few fields way but it was good hare and a good bitch. We were young.

Seen many foxes take hounds down the same route but most were controlled.

Seen a clever rat avoid the easy option of going to ground and run across a usually quiet road just a car was passing and a terrier got hit.

Like I said, a boring hardbinger of doom, but just from lessons learned. I am very paranoid of traffic where dogs are concerned.

As I am eastcoast ,I seen a number of dogs that got into battle with cars and the dogs have not scored yet. Townie  drivers are the worst, they can't even see a white dog walking along the roadside, nor me, dress in my blue overalls, it makes my blood boil if they take no heed of my dog's working ahead signs. These days I decide early if I don't think they plan on slowing down or not , then I step out into the road early, and stand right in the middle and put my up to stop, even if they slow right down, I stay where I am and hold my ground once they come to a full stop I normally go over and ask the driver to remain stopped until I get all the surrounding dogs before I yell out yip you are good to go now. I just don't trust these pea brained retards. Sometimes I strongly feel like punching some smart ass prick though the open window, but I don't I just smile and say have a good day ..........c**t......😬😕
