Facts are,....If you seriously work a genuine hunting/mouching style whippet,...it will inevitably hit a few, bits and pieces....👍  Back in the day,...I was privileged to own, breed and work,.. q

I know you were just after a bite from Ray, mate, but I’ve seen a few different types on my trips down under, and they do the jobs they are asked to do very well; Whippets; Staghounds;

worked my Nell practically 7 days a week ,,  some of the places she marked, were horendous for me to get to, hands n knees job, but i always did my best to honour her, cos she wouldnt budge and waited

These days I just do a bit of ferreting and while our collie x largely avoids trouble apart from the odd foot injury or wire cut , our whippet is always marked after ferreting. Yesterday giving my two oldest ferrets a quick outing, our whippet picked up several nasty cuts on bramble, no wire anywhere. This is not unusual for him as he's very game to the point of reckless / stupidity but it made me think that a working whippet must have scars. and yet at the few shows I go to , most other whippets seem pretty clean. Is my dog just a skin injury magnet or are many working whippets not getting much action?

Hope there's no hare or fox on the ground. Me being a boring hardinger of doom... just a bit close to a main road.

What do u know 🤔

I was going to try and think of something clever, and get into a silly THL nonsense exchange of words. You almost got me. Did you say your Hail Mary's and make a good Act of Contrition? No matter.

One the 1st lurchers that I seen run got killed when a hare took her across a motorway. She kicked the hare up a few fields way but it was good hare and a good bitch. We were young.

Seen many foxes take hounds down the same route but most were controlled.

Seen a clever rat avoid the easy option of going to ground and run across a usually quiet road just a car was passing and a terrier got hit.

Like I said, a boring hardbinger of doom, but just from lessons learned. I am very paranoid of traffic where dogs are concerned.

The niggles from working I've seen over the years in our other lurchers, all primarily greyhound bloodlines, like feet and wrist injuries are much less in comparison

I don't know why some people say whippets have bad feet, I've never had a problem with that apart from the odd cut pad or ripped dew claw, as you say different to greyhounds.

Might just be coincidence but out of the lurchers i have had in the past and have also seen what other's have owned it's nearly always those bred out of greyhounds that's suffered foot and wrist damage. Though a decent bitch i had years ago bred out of a coursing dog called the Beast that she just resembled a strong grew suffered foot damage and had numerous scars mainly from wire and smashing through cover though her litter sister that threw more to the saluki her feet were more sounder.
