Theres a fine line between super fit and f****d mate. If there's enough rabbits about about you can sicken any dog.

If your out most nights the week running the dog hard then cracks will appear

Ah it's alright for u.

Lack of drive… you should pick the runs, not the dog. Cheers.

Let me add a bit of context. The dog is worked off the slip in darkness on ground which isn’t flat open fields more scrub land and patchy ferns with bits of open land between. The dog has to be pretty

🤔We would all prefer a dog that 'tries' for everything and anything,...we don't wanna be wasting our time with a canine pal that ain't taking the hunting game seriously,...but,.. truth  is,.. most  do

Alas … We  may bathe in warm waters , but can only dream of those numbers , there’s nay enough here now to make a jukel wretch let alone nauseous.

You knows.....😉

He does.. Remember that night when old Molly cost me a large sum of money at the emergency vets trigger ?

We found her limit that night.

On the subject of picking runs. My old dog Doris has made the grand old age of 12 and is still a handy dog in a rabbit catchers tool box. Even with countless injuries and muscle sprains etc she still catches over the warrens and often retrieves for me, even when I'm shooting bunnies at night or day. She's been in my opinion picking runs for the last 8 years or so. If she didn't have the brains to pick wisely she wouldn't have lasted this long. I can work a warren with her and there could be bunnies hopping about on multiple other warrens within 50 yards and even closer, But I expect her to stay on the job at hand and she does and so did Molly at the same time. ( RIP Molly ). To see them both working together was poetry I can't see I'll ever be able to repeat in my lifetime.

I only bring her out occasionally to keep her happy these days.

PS. there's still plenty of bunnies about in some areas.

I used to know a lad who said when myxi hit his area his dog picked up a few and then never took an interest in rabbits again. But was a decent bitch before that.

Mine didn't like mouthing myxi rabbits, they'd still catch them but you could see the horror on their face, lol.

I was out running a pair of super fit dogs one mate. Sometimes we would have nights when we would run 2 dogs on a rabbit and keep score the dog who caught the most had the whole bag. Just a bit of fun

Anyway we were running on steep banks and as the night went on the dogs started picking there runs and the bag got to 34 and the dogs just looked like they didn't want it, with that in mind and knowing the dogs we knew they weren't fcuked but they just knew those particular rabbits were hard that night. We moved of the banks on to some flatter ground and the dogs run absolutely fine finishing on 54.

I would rather the dogs done that than run everything they couldn't catch.
