It's getting worse

Was told this morning by a chap fishing on river near me. That other week his pal was on one of local waters doing a few nights. And two lads came trying to take his fishing gear. Lad ended up with a right black eye made a mess of him by all accounts. Scary f***ing times specially when you don't know what there carrying or want an hours kip.

Take a proper catapult and some ball bearings . 
or a heavy walking stick .

Agree , Works most times … The only thing is with that , I’d put myself in front of my dog if It got real .. and I have  …. It’s my job to protect ,everyone/thing under my roof … used dogs as a deterrent, but if it comes on top , I take the fall , and that’s not bravado , it’s what I believe

Fair play to you each to there own … mines always been family members and pets , guarding breed or not … they don’t have a job … I have no need for a protection dog in my life … not saying they wouldn’t put themselves self there , I wouldn’t let them. … billy big spuds want to play , he ain’t playing with my nearest and dearest without getting through me first ….. if I thought my kids needed protection while out them I’d be there with them not leave it to a dog …

i would not feed a dog that would not protect but thattss me ive done time for atempted murder and gbh but you cant always be there

One of the reason I don't bother fishing the local canal these day and if i do its first light for a few hours as a few older boys like me have been mugged for their tackle usually by druggies who seem to roam up and down the canal from Meadow hall to Rotherham plus gangs of Roma Slovaks though non of the above have never bothered me it's made me feel a bit uncomfortable a few times fishing on my own .

It's shocking our own country men feeling this way. Can't go fishing on their own or can but don't feel comfortable so fucks the day up because your always looking about.

I used to fish some dodgy places ,for urban carp/barbel  over the years.. I always carry a machete in my rod bag... amongst a few other things...if I'm on my own then I take a dog

Never needed protecting to be honest , but that’s me ….

I've bought myself one of them extendible nightstick like coppers have. It's a good bit of kit. A place called onbuy sell them danny. On the add it says walking stick. Lol.

Fits in pocket nice when out mooching with or fishing. Some weight to the stick too.
