My parents watching it and they were on about hedgehogs declining ,biggest factors were pesticides/slug pellets and loss of habitat .

No mention of badgers killing and eating them?

Haven't badgers been eating them all the time, unless you are saying a big rise in badger populations are hitting the hedgehog population?

I think that’s what he was hinting at. Seen plenty about around me since badger cull

This is how they could find hedgehogs. Get yourself a Jack Russell. Walk him in the old places that you used to walk and others now do. Try and be friendly with the other dog walkers, let him sniff where the other dogs are sniffing, then crunch and shake, he's found another bloody hedgehog in the cover. Mouth covered in blood from a dozen tiny spine pricks, other dogs and people freaking out, Jack Russell covered in fleas looking very pleased with himself.

Had a very similar experience with my russel, jumping out from the cover with a hedgehog nearly decapitated swinging from his gob and claret everywhere as a woman dog walker came on the field 😬

Cost me a fortune in flea stuff the week after too when the dogs were riddled

No need to de-flea, the ones that live on hedgehogs cannot survive on dogs. Just pick them off off crush :-). Same with rabbits.

One of my rotties years ago was throwing his toy around the garden in the dark , was getting some good air with it . I went to throw it for him and got spiked … oh …. It’s not your cloth frog 😳🥹.
two weeks later went away for the weekend amd left my mate looking after the house and dogs … got a phone call , dogs just dropped a dead hedgehog at my feet in the kitchen ….. 🤦‍♂️   Asked him next day where he’d disposed of the body …. I put it out on the road so it looked like a road accident was his reply …. 🤣🤣🤣

Not watched it for year's like some have said it's become too woke . I remember in the early 90s and they did a piece on illegal hare coursing and then went on about catapults that some lads coursing had used to deter a landowner confronting them after watching the clip i got straight on the phone to my mate in London who was filmed with two other's walking down a lane with their backs to who ever was filming them with their lurchers 😆

Sounds like the sort of bulls**t that he would come out with

I have lived in the house I'm in now for about 40 years there have always been Hedgehogs in the garden and I have aways used slug pellets. I put some ferret food under the ferret hutch every night and come every night unless its pissing down or a hard frost. but I have even had small ones come in frosty weather I reckon they haven't got enough weight to hibernate. The only problem with encouraging them is the little and some times not so little shits they leave on the paths lol.

A hedgehog run up beside my front steps.
