I looked at a house when me and my wife was first going out, best part of 30 year ago now….it was £60,000 and I remember us racking our heads and think “oh, this is a bit much for us at the minute”

I think these day's when i tell younger folk how much i paid  for my house in the 80s they don't believe me. Though the same house i first bought i ended up having to sell it after the pit strike due

It's the same in the Lake District and The Highlands There's got to be restrictions on second homes. It's immoral for young people to be forced away from their traditional areas so  yuppies can live i

would you really have sold the house to the local lad if the estate agent said to you the 3rd world bloke is willing to pay you 100 - 150 grand more

100% yes……

I mean it’s a bit of a mute point because nobody is going to pay 100/150 k over the asking price so the reality is he may have said 10 k more and the answer would have definitely been no.

3 years ago I told a bloke to go f**k himself on a job that would have cleared me 40k for a days work and a few emails because I didn’t like his chairman’s tone of voice and turn of phrase at our initial meeting…..I thought they were f***ing rude !, so when he was on the phone begging for the quote I told him “no”

If you sell your principals then all anyone is ever doing is negotiating your worth…….and it’s the only thing nobody can take away from you, you measure it’s value and you decide if your selling.

well hats off to you Wilf  if you can f**k 40 grand off for a days work but the reality is someone else made that money instead of you and i certainly could bite my lip if someone was talking to me in a rude manner if it meant i was getting 40k for a days work out of the deal that's for sure

There you go, it’s all the same all we are doing is arguing about the price mate.

On a far smaller scale, when I lived in Saudi a mate who was leaving asked me to sell his washing machine for him, it was one of those big yank GE things.

He only wanted sr300, about £50, an absolute bargain.

Anyway, the first person to view it was a Pakistani woman; she asked if I would take sr200 for it; I said no, I want sr400 for it.

She said “you advertised it for sr300 !”.

I replied “ yes but you offered sr200” .

My wife was watching on, knew what was coming, shook her head and left.

The Pakistan woman said “OK, I’ll give you the sr300”, I replied “no I want sr500”.
She looked at me as if I was mad and left.

The next viewer was a yank and paid the sr300 immediately and I helped him load it in his truck.

Nothing remotely racist, I would have done the same if the roles were reversed, I just didn’t want my mate ripped off !

Cheers.

I don’t think it is, the principal remains the same to me mate.

I find these type of conversations interesting and I fully understand your view point, but everyone has to be true to themselves I think and that’s just me.

Everyone has their own things they don’t want to compromise on, each is unique to every individual.

Money will make a lot of people loose their principals in a heartbeat.

When I sold my house in England I expressly told the estate agents no 3rd world types…..I thought he was going to have a seizure ! Lol

He sent one round anyway and I made the bloke sit outside for 2 hours while the estate agent bombarded me with phone calls saying “A potential buyer is outside”, I said “I know, I’m looking at him out my front window” !

”But he is a cash buyer”

I said “I don’t give a shit what he is, I told you no 3rd world types”

“But you can’t do that”

”Well I am doing it it, he can sit there until the cows come home for all I care”

Old Samuel L Jackson kept getting out his motor, knocking and then going back to his motor to get on the phone no doubt to the estate agent…..fair play, he was persistent !
My wife was beside herself with embarrassment, “He can see you looking at him” lol

“I know, f**k him !” Lol

I sold to a lad out of barking who was just like me when I bought it, couple of young kids and a nice British family.

When I was looking at my house one of the questions I asked the agent was “If I buy this, I’m not putting some local family out the picture am I ?”
He looked at me a bit bemused but said, no, not at all…..but if I’d have sussed that may be the case I’d have genuinely not bought the gaff…….I have since learned that that isn’t a thing in my part of Ireland.

But more British people need to start putting value to things rather than a price.

I’m liking your moral standards… if that’s the correct phrase ….. if it don’t sit right with me I’d cut my nose off to spite my face apparently…..I take that as a compliment.

Going back to villages. A lot of properties were privatly rented by locals rents were put up and up or evicted then sold. As said money is the root of the problem and no new social houses built even after right to buy they never used the money to build more.
