I think these day's when i tell younger folk how much i paid  for my house in the 80s they don't believe me. Though the same house i first bought i ended up having to sell it after the pit strike due to the mortgage doubling to catch up on the year i was on strike and my mortgage was froze and moved into a council house with a big garden and in all honesty a lot better house than the 2 up 2 down i had a mortgage on and under the right to buy i bought it and now ime mortgage free.

I looked at a house when me and my wife was first going out, best part of 30 year ago now….it was £60,000 and I remember us racking our heads and think “oh, this is a bit much for us at the minute” 

That same house today is over half a million quid……but here is the thing, the price I was getting for certain bits of stock  is lower now than it was then……diesel was about £0.54 a litre then ? What’s it now?, £1:40 ? (It’s €1:70 + here !! ) 

In effect you have to work 3 x as hard to have the same or less, that’s not just inflation, that’s a scam any way you cut it. 
A few people have f****d everyone else with the help of their paid puppets in government and are getting very rich off the back of everyone else’s graft……that’s just not right.

It's also like my youngest daughter in her 30s she works in the laundrette at the care home the old woman works in and also behind the bar at the local pub her partner works as a sheeter and cladder and they rent a private property. The kid's want for nothing and they have holidays and a social life there is no way they could afford to save for a deposit on a decent house but I know for a cert they would have been able too in the 80s with the work ethic they both have.

There were 135 second homes up for sale in Pembrokeshire in July...

I think when people can't afford to rent or buy then it's not a bad idea to make second/third homes a poor investment, in the south west it's next level with entire towns and villages being made up of holiday homes , making them ghost towns in winter ...

 

that's the same where i live on the llyn peninsular they have really got it in for people that have second homes and holiday cottages that they rent out in summer and are empty in winter but in reality there is no work here apart from tourism and on local wages the locals would not be able to afford these houses anyway they moan about having to leave their birthplace because they can't afford to live here but the works just not here that's the truth. 100 years ago they were boat builders, sail makers a huge herring fishing industry, farmers, quarry workers all the shops and pubs that these workers used all gone tourism is the only thing left and it's seasonal so most of the people that can afford these home are  retired people that have made their money

I was on holiday in St Ives 2 years ago, got chatting to a local cafe owner, she said they were struggling to find people to work in the cafe, especially when the schools and colleges were not on holiday, as there was nowhere for the the employees to live.

I guess it'll evolve , once enough property comes onto the market prices will drop further, I was working near Lampeter early part of year and the factory was full of philipinoes , Africans and polish , I presume it's catch 22 if locals can't afford to live there then there isn't the labour force, but half the houses were let out to foreigners so guess a lot of second homes were a pension/ income for  locals but is that fair on the youngsters and would they do the work of the foreigners.....I was paying silly money for accommodation one place was asked by the factory to do long term let's but they declined but im guessing most of the rest would happily take it in the winter...at Least

i bet the polish and africans living in those rented property's were sharing a dozen mattresses in each room that's why they can afford it

Thats partly true but even fishermen cant afford to live in the village they fish out of. It's people that earn't their money in London places like that that have bought these places. Restaurants, Pubs and Hotels Struggle to get staff because they cant afford to rent or buy. Same goes for nurses cant find accommodation they can afford it's mental. Whole villages empty in the winter all bought out by the rich.

My home town now prices gone through the roof because the Sunday papers and Mags say its one of the best places to live. They move in get on the council then start changing the very place that they moved into.  Place is full of rich people dressing poor now.

very true arry but the local people that have owned their houses for years or who's parents have left them a property gladly take the inflated prices  for these property's .it's the locals that sell out in the first place usually and who can blame them .most of the wingers are hypocritical and when selling there own property very rarely if ever say they will only sell to a local and take a hit for 100 grand

There is an element of truth in that as well mate but its the house agents that sell the houses and they want the bucks. Also planners here are not interested in social housing or first time buying property's. Builders are no longer local Builders it's big corporate companies that what to build 4 and 5 bedroom houses on the side of the river and the planners let them get away with it. Or as I believe they're in the back pocket of the corporate company's.

Thing is the young move away because the cant afford to rent or buy they build their lives and job away, The parent die or move to a home the youngsters that moved and have a life else where sell the property to the highest bidder. Theres a village not that far from me in Start Bay that I fish and have done for years just two local left retired people with money or Air B&B.

Money will make a lot of people loose their principals in a heartbeat.

When I sold my house in England I expressly told the estate agents no 3rd world types…..I thought he was going to have a seizure ! Lol 

He sent one round anyway and I made the bloke sit outside for 2 hours while the estate agent bombarded me with phone calls saying “A potential buyer is outside”, I said “I know, I’m looking at him out my front window” !

”But he is a cash buyer”

I said “I don’t give a shit what he is, I told you no 3rd world types” 

“But you can’t do that”

”Well I am doing it it, he can sit there until the cows come home for all I care”

Old Samuel L Jackson kept getting out his motor, knocking and then going back to his motor to get on the phone no doubt to the estate agent…..fair play, he was persistent ! 
My wife was beside herself with embarrassment, “He can see you looking at him” lol 

“I know, f**k him !” Lol 

I sold to a lad out of barking who was just like me when I bought it, couple of young kids and a nice British family.

When I was looking at my house one of the questions I asked the agent was “If I buy this, I’m not putting some local family out the picture am I ?” 
He looked at me a bit bemused but said, no, not at all…..but if I’d have sussed that may be the case I’d have genuinely not bought the gaff…….I have since learned that that isn’t a thing in my part of Ireland.

But more British people need to start putting value to things rather than a price.
