Never seen a different coloured one but I have seen one that was white underneath that came up its sides like it was pied.

I was walking part of the Northumbrian coastal path today when I spotted a hare which was unusually coloured. It was far more golden or yellow coloured than normal hares. I focused my binos on it and it was definitely much, much lighter than normal hares. It really stood out.

I've heard old timers talk about 'yellow' hares and I guess this was an example.

Also heard people talk about very dark, melanistic hares.

Anybody ever seen either?

Just read an article in 'Wildlife Online'. It says there's a lot of variation of coat colour in hares. There are " sandy morphs", completely black specimens and reports of a bluey/ grey coat colour particularly in Norfolk. Oh ye of little faith.

There's a old airfield a 10 min walk from my house in south norfolk where very very dark almost black hares can be seen and in your hand as such they are a bluey/grey rather than being black..

It was probably a hare still in its summer coat mate.
