Fitzwilliam 36
I have a collie and a kelpie. Two bitches, 3 and 4 years old. Cracking little dogs, high pray drive and great at ratting and driving out rabbits. Looking at getting a running dog to join the pack but no idea what to go for. I have seen a few patterdale x whippets work and beddyx whippets but not sure if a bigger dog would be better suited. Any advice/ recommendations would be great. Thank you Edited September 6 by Fitzwilliam Add photo of dogs 1 Quote Link to post

Thank you It’s like asking how long is a piece of string ! Youll get loads of different opinions, and that’s all they are ; opinions. For what it’s worth, here is my opinion; If ratting and bushing for rabbits is your game, you’ll need something relatively small and fast. A whippet, a whippet greyhound, a beddy greyhound. Any of them should do the job for you . Good luck with whatever you choose. Cheers. 1 Quote Link to post
Aussie Whip 4,097
I'd go for something at least 3/4 running dog if you want something faster than a kelpie. 1 Quote Link to post

I mainly be running rats and rabbits so whippet x it will be. Probably look towards pat/collie x whippet or beddy/collie x whippet, comething along those lines. 1 Quote Link to post

Moonlighter123 155
I wouldn’t get anything too small as you’ve got 2 bushing dogs, and you’ll just end up with 3 bushing dogs. 6 Quote Link to post

Thank you It does really depend on what you want to catch, where it is, and how you want to catch it? Collies and terriers will catch almost everything. If you want it done more quickly get a whippet or a greyhound. Edited September 6 by eastcoast where not were 1 Quote Link to post
hounddog3 744
A Beddy x Greyhound x Whippet fast and game and should catch bigger if needed. 1 Quote Link to post

big feet 324
Why don't you get a racey lurcher put over one or a working whippet, they would make real handy dogs. 1 Quote Link to post

You know it makes sense. That's if you intend on keeping on hunting rabbits and rats. No need for a bigger dog. 1 Quote Link to post
