It’s as vital as any other base in the world for the Americans, but I may be wrong but I read your post as being that the Americans base in Isreal  was their major base in the Middle East when it is not . World politics is fluid, and I’ve been out of the loop for a long time so what I say in here is just my opinion ,

As Manuel says " I know nothing". But your reply led me to google and it appears the US commitment to Israel is not based solely based on military presence. Apparently the US has poured 300 billion dollars into Israel's coffers since 1948 and some yanks, including Trump, are growing impatient with the drain on the  countrys resources. Some are saying America's support for Israel is becoming counter productive and causing America more problems than it needs. Apparently they payroll other Arab countries to maintain normal political relations with Israel. Nothing is as it seems.

If the powers don’t see the problem the common person has, we have no hope unless they are usurped and a reasonable government comes to power! No way does this mean that racism is open! It means that the people who wish to live in Blighty/Europe come and live here for the right reasons. Apart from this, I’ll call on any cnut to say I’m wrong.

Why wouldn’t America and the rest of the democratic western world support Israel, the only democratic country in the Middle East ?

Im an “Arabist” which I hasten to add is NOT an Islamist ! I support a free and democratic Isreal and want a free and democratic Palestine also, but I haven’t a clue how to achieve that, but the left wing hatred of Jews, Isreal and of course Zionism, isn't helping in finding a solution.

Don't think,I've anything to add  other than to repeat what I've just read: that America's support for Israel comes at great cost, both financially and in terms of support for America amongst the rest of the free world.

I'm not sure the left ( whoever or whatever that is)  hate jews. I think that has been an attack from the right which has been successful in discrediting  certain leftist figures. The same goes for the supposed alliance between the left and mad Islamists. I think that's bollox too. Many leading right wing figures, including Churchill made antisemitic statements. Let's face it, historically the jews have been hated full stop. As a child I was taught to hate jews by the Catholic  doctrine I was indoctrinated with. I certainly don't hate them now.

Hard line ISRAELI jews are, imo, acting out some sort of genocidal,blood lust in the present bombardment of Palestine. They are treating Palestinians as they were treated by the Nazis. Netanyahu is a war criminal imo and America is enabling him.
