I thought these comments from a professional hunter were interesting. Shows the realities of 'trophy hunting'.

If a hunter had shot the lion then the community would have got a percentage of the trophy fee

Remember what I said about the common folks actually living there having. To deal with these animals? Same with people in wolf county hence the common saying " smoke a pack a day" out west  and so on

It was an iucn report. I posted it on here years ago. Can’t seem to find it now. Google is flooded with the usual left wing hunting hate.

Yep and that's a mantra I agree with. If hunting can persevere habitat and keep a sustainable population then I suppose it's a net win. I'm not entirely a fan because I've read a study which suggests that trophy hunting has a negative impact on animal size, meaning that larger specimens are getting all the more scarce.

From what I can gather after recently reading the book about Cecil the lion by big game hunter and former African game warden a very informative read and the outcry about the killing of this lion was perpetrated by certain individuals for financial gain and popularity as Cecil had become a nomad and was coming to the end of his day's in the wild. The same author said dominant male pride lions should not be hunted as it would have a detrimental affect to the pride. The revenue trophy hunting brings in is a well needed addition to some African countries economies and if done right only the killing of large animals that are coming to the end of their day's breeding wise. I think it's a complex issue and furore over the killing of Cecil the lion by a bow hunter from America caused world wide condemnation with the anti hunting organisations shouting the loudest though when you read this book by Ron Thompson it gives you another perspective on the issue and not forgetting all charges were dropped that were persued to bring the American hunter to face criminal charges.

Where are you & Born getting your figures from? From what I can find on the web wildlife tourism brings in a lot more revenue than the hunting industry?
