Pewit 970
IMO, this is what the riots were about. People may have been protesting about high levels of black immigration, but for me thats just a symptom of their frustration. The vast majority of those convicted were white and dog poor. They've been shat on all their lives and there was an explosion of bitterness and frustration. Levels of immigration have been crazy and made the white poor even more frustrated. They are having to compete with so many others for jobs and housing. Personally I believe in utilitarianism..trying to achieve the greatest good for the greatest number of people. At the moment i'ts the other way round. The greatest good for the least number of people. If I were The Man I would redistribute wealth big time. If that meant taxing the rich until the pips squeak, then great. Wilf you say its unfair to have differential tax rates and we should all pay the same. I disagree with that full stop. That ain't fair. The obscenely rich are laughing at us. Check out Bezos openly laughing and goading politicians to tax him more. Wilf you are defending an indefensible system. Anyway, I,m copping out. Cowardly maybe but these things carry on for pages and its a lovely day. I just thought some may like to browse the attachment. Im pretty sure most will disagree with me. Fairy nuff. Edited August 22 by Pewit

Pewit 970
I can't get my head around folk sometimes. They claim to be men of the people yet proposes we should cut taxes on everything apart from security & infrastructure. So they are basically proposing a system that would see the poorest potentially miss out on public services like heath care, education and social welfare as it's guaranteed that these services would suffer with no tax revenue. They are also proposing a system which would guarantee to make the gap between the rich & the poor widen, baffling. Edited August 22 by Pewit

I nearly didnt bother responding after I saw "People may have been protesting about high levels of black immigration" as IMHO the protests were a multitude of things but as I was also a great believer in "taxing the rich until the pips squeak" I thought I would drop in my two pennethworth . Firstly define "rich" and "wealth", Inherited wealth or earned wealth? Inherited wealth...............To put it in to perspective I have a mate who went to university with the son of a Baron. In conversation I mentioned how it must be great to be that wealthy and he said not sure its that great on the outside it looks like they are well off because they live in a mansion but when the heating goes down it dont cost a grand to get repaired, it cost £10's of thousands to repair. If they dont have that tucked away they are in the same position as someone who lives in a £250k house. Earned Wealth..............If someone has grafted and built their wealth up from nothing, helped people along the way, created wealth for the communities they are based in then why should they have it taken from them. Tax them until the pips squeak and it takes away the drive to become "wealthy" taking away the positives I have mentioned above. I suppose its all relative and I see the bigger issue being how that tax is being distributed. Makes no difference to me how much Bezos is taxed if it all ends up in some other corrupt, morally inept governments pockets.

How do you propose we tax everyone equally without it disproportionately impacting the poor?

Where did I say tax everyone equally ? I don't think taxing "wealthy" people "until the pips squeak" will have anything other than a negative effect. Again define poor, you havent explained what you consider rich yet you just keep throwing out these words with no context ? The man with no mortgage living in a £200k house or a man living in a £1 million pound house mortgaged to the hilt ? Like I say all relative. I'm no financial expert but for the record I think nobody should be paying tax earning below 25k pa, 40% should be the max anyone is taxed regardless off income or wealth and the threshold for that should be raised to 100k pa. My mistake, you didn't say this. Nice proposals but this would see a reduction in total revenue. The key point is would that extra disposable income offset the negative of the hit to our services which would still impact the poorest the hardest?

So all we've done is gone around in circles as now I'm going to say exactly what I said on the other thread but more bluntly, stop pissing the UK tax payers money up a wall. Tax Bezos 99% and you and I would still be exactly the same, wages would be the same, we'd still have to wait 6 months for a doctors appointment etc etc, the only change would be Amazon would sod off out of the UK and 75,000 people would be out of a job. And you still haven't defined rich or poor ?

Fairy nuff. Let me make this really, really simple for you: If I have 6 beans and you have 8 beans and someone asks for some beans, I give them 2 beans and you give them 2 beans….that way we have both contributed exactly the same which by any logical measure is fair. However if I give 2 beans and you give 4 beans then that’s not fair because by any logical measure we have not contributed the same…… If we apply the “wealthiest can pay more” ridiculous logic then we’d all be round our next door neighbours every time that got something better than us and helping ourselves which is clearly out of order. ”My lawnmower is shite John, give us your brand new one because you can clearly afford it”……nonsense like ! Remember, just because a politicians tells you a story that don’t make it real ! Lol

Its 6 beans and 6000 beans and the differential is growing all the time. Capitalism is king but not our brand of capitalism which consists of grinding the poor down paying washers and making them work until 67. Our country as the report shows is one of the more unequal societies in the developed world. And its getting worse. Let's have nordic style capitalism. It'd not rocket science and its not too much to ask.
