I'd love to have my old collie cross and run him beside a coursing bred to just to see the difference. No doubt they would have more in the tank but on the one hare he was hard to beat, he caught a lot. Most he did local was 3 out of 3, medium to small fields. I never saw him out run on the occasions a hare got up when out on a mooch with other lurchers. When you see some of those coursing vids a lot of animals don't look all that impressive, maybe it's just rose tinted glasses, of course you don't know what the going is like or how good the hares are unless you're there.

Some of them coursing types with more saluki in them running local to you my money would have been on your dog mate even though i have never owned a legendary hare killing lurcher and only run the fens once i always kept a type that could catch local but saying that one of the best hare dog's i have had that came out of the beast to a lurcher to lurcher with whippet in the blood did well on some big land.

a half descent coursing bred will kill on all land mate brain kills hares if the dog has a few gears there good small land you have more obstacles more things the hare needs to think about but to kill the strongest on open land the dog needs to sit in at points flying at them over and over won’t work

lads will have had it first one going over 4 mins dog they like doing well now open land no excuses the dogs still none stop trying the hare but it ain’t going over your saying to your self sit in sit in ffs lol then it does you think yes now it’s in with a chance  lol

I’m the same mate I only run him by myself and don’t even know a man with a coursing bred and he’s  just a knock about beddy grey to lurcher and I’d love to see how far behind he’d be against a supestar cos he knocks plenty over locally (quite far behind probably) I’ve never seen a real coursing bred run in the flesh.

Like you said mate it's all about the gears. I remember an old mate from Edlington near Doncaster who ran a couple of pure Salukis years ago your old man might know him Roy was is first name and he would always travel to biggish land to give his dog a chance though he would match his lamping bitch local as he knew it stood a better chance on small land.

i’ve never run a pure mate but you get the right one it will kill for fun and go longer and be stronger then out you could lay your hands on

there’s different lines with different styles and dogs with them as you know i’d say the bulldozer for instance is more like a saluki not as classy to watch as some but an out and out killer
