Just one question  mate, to get most dogs nail that's short, by cutting  in to the nail bed would very cruel, and you would have knocked the fooker out.when I worked at racing kennels for 6 months,  I learned alot of the trainer  regards sighthound  in general.and one thing was watching him do his dogs nails, he had 50 dogs.but he only cut bit of each nail, OK he do lot to keep on top of it, and yes they run on sand, not open fields hitting god knows what day/night. But he was said don't hurt them and let you clip bit off. Hurt then you big battle on your hands more so with strong 70lb male greyhound and he was born  would and Buck  will stand  for me no prob,  you never hold Buck if didn't want to stand for you deff.

i think he means take it down close to the quick or until you get your circle on a dog with black nails keep doing it the quick will get shorter with the nails

i’ve seen vets and done it myself if you cut a nail off at the toe you don’t put the dog to sleep it only make a little yip mate

and any dog done regular will stand you know if it’s getting close how they are reacting

Fair point, myself  I've always gone  close as can to to the quick, most of my other dogs nails  been light I colour, so I could see, but Buck are all black, funny thing is I prob do bit more  than I did Bryn  who light colour.but being honest mate, prob did have what you might long nails, but in all the 7 years lamping him , that  long hard nights different places, he never had foot injury,  until  he hit some fookin rocks  chasing his quarry,  he he bust his back toe, I rested him 6 weeks, then bike work 2 weeks, and  carried on.lamping him after, was ok but held leg slightly  out, think that was poss habit after not using for 8 weeks proper.but he still caught few deer, foxes, so didn't stop him.but he old now 12. Hope he can go on for another year or so.

I Personally don't cut into the nail bed mate hear of people who do though. I use a small pet grinder and frequently takes 5 minutes only grinding back the hook what you can take off in 5 minutes would take weeks on the road, pretty easy  to judge what your taking off and if people aren't confident the dog will start to pull back when getting to close to the quicks.
if dogs nails are long take a bit off wait a week or two let the quick move back and then take a little off again and repeat until at the desired length. Like anything else best to start doing it as a pup so there used to the noise and vibration starting to do it with older dogs might be difficult but every dog is different

Yes mate it can mate if you just keep holding it in the one position. But I grind down the middle of the nails first and then at each side of the nails basically just on each nail for a few seconds, much easier and better than using nail clippers especially on black nails like my bitch
