As with everything in life mate the mistake is relying on someone else to look after you, we grow old clinging to a load of material shite like houses and cars and other fake gold only for the government to feed you a diet of shit that will lead to you loosing your marbles and ending life in a home were they can milk every last drop out of you, sell it all well you still have a bit about you and live a happy old life leaving nothing behind, how many old feckers end there days in one room of a big house unable to heat it waiting for socks to turn up with his sickle and take them away, that’s not living it’s just surviving the state will take care of you if you have nothing left wise up and play the game blaming Maggie and everyone else for our own mistakes is just a waste of energy, expect nothing from no one and you will never be disappointed

Nah, don't agree. I've paid in all my life. I want something back. It's not charity, far from it. It's a government's job to look after its people. Not just their mates. They come begging when there's a war to fight, or dirty, crap jobs to be done. The least they could do is give us the social provision that the rest of Europe receive. I have looked after myself. Kept myself fit, saved, and we've both  got private pensions. The government's role is provide a healthier, wealthier population. But, instead, we're going back the way in this country.

See, it’s stuff like that, that is disgusting. You could feel better about these things if you looked out your window and seen your town and your country getting much better, but you don’t mate,

Imho, it’s not good waiting for the government (Tory or Labour) to be fair to you…..it’s never going to happen, ever ! These people are money junkies and they will keep dreaming up new things to

No just enough to live on and keep them self warm in the winter. The deal was you pay in and you get a pension when you reach 65 men and 60 for women. They have moved the goalposts on that now.

Yes mate, that is how it should work but (and I’m sure Greyman will correct me if I’m wrong) what Greyman is saying is that is not how it actually does work…..so what do people do ?

Im with Greyman on this one, f**k em, they broke the contract not you so play your own game as best you can.

As wilf says, it’s how it should work but your trusting in a system set up to keep you at the bottom of the ladder, just treading water for a roof over your head and a fortnight in Benidorm, history just keeps on repeating itself and a new generation of saps signup for it over and over again, that’s not a dig at you or anyone else it’s just the view from my own tinted windows

Relying on the govt to look after is a big mistake , you will get into the worst ole biddies home thier is, if that suits you then all good , thier are robbers in suits, could,nt run a bath. It’s up to you to handle your money so you can have a decent retirement, no point sitting in a council bungalow eating the bare minimum, freezing your tits off and moaning you don’t get looked after, what do you expect a 5 star hotel with superb food and care.

The old are just a nuisance now.

I did have about 8 pensions some very small but I didn't draw on any I took them out and invested the money. The thing is a lot of pensions if you die the money is gone so f**k that.

There is a lot of old folk out there that had low payed jobs that they could only just get by on when earning no extra to put by for old age. So they just get discarded now not useful any more.

Sad in my opinion UK way down in 15th place for pensions in Europe.

I'm 73 now and still get out cutting logs to fill the wood shed but I'm lucky I'm still active enough and have places I can go.

Sad though like the old lady next door about 76 in tears with a bit of dementia worried about winter.

Cheers Arry

Poor old lady, dementia is not good and thiers not many dementia homes about, we had to put a family member into a dementia home it was nightmare, a lot  of homes that accessed her said they don’t cater for that type of dementia she had ffs. In a private home now £1200 per week. It’s not a posh place either by any means.

She's not ready for a home yet but very forgetful. She in denial about it all thinks she will get better, has a car out  side and hasn't driven it for over a year. I have to remind her about putting the bins out and what bins I drop her around the odd meal. But she is fretful she thought she had been scammed the other day after somebody rang and said money had been taken out of her account. Shame she switched off every thing and walked out the house she though somebody was into her computer. I saw her coming back in tears and tried to explain that nothing had gone told her to check her bank to put her mind at rest.

The Government picking on the pensioners just adds worries for some folk.

There was a 93 year across the road I sort of kept an eye on did her shopping few meals every week she had a mini stroke and went down hill fast with dementia. Went into a home for a while but didn't want to pay. She had a fall and the Hospitals didn't want her sent her home with ibuprofen patches on her. The b*****ds she had a broken hip the doctor came said she had to go back into hospital. They tried to stop her being admitted. Died a few months later in a home costing an arm an a leg.

It's bloody cruel how they are treating the old people.

Cheers Arry

In regard to parents or old family members. Big mistake I made:

Do not pay money into their bank accounts. When they are sane it gives them some sense of security when going over their "papers". When they loose their minds they get no help until every penny that they have is taken.

Trying to correct my comment. Probably not correct. It's complicated and confusing.
