Another thing that pisses me off is like my wife who has worked in the care sector for over 35 year's paying a full stamp and now with her health conditions but still carries on working the odds of her living well into state pension age are stacked against her and if the inevitable happens i wont get a percentage of her state pension. She also receives a pension from the council for 21 year's caring for the physically disabled and if she dropped dead tomorrow i would not get a penny of it unlike my miners pension she would receive a monthly percentage of it. See, it’s stuff like that, that is disgusting. You could feel better about these things if you looked out your window and seen your town and your country getting much better, but you don’t mate, what we see is a catastrophe….a f***ing great, big, massively expensive catastrophe! Im just about to start building my daughters tiny home, she has been back in Belfast this week and put her house on the market. Alright, she has a start and an advantage because I have the space, but she has figured out she can reduce her bills massively and just save the money ! She has owned her house 5 months, couldn’t get her bins emptied, couldn’t get a doctors appointment, 9 hours in A&E and told your could wait 18 but if you go home we won’t bother getting back to you with any results !! She came down here, went to the doctor same day, doctor sent a letter to A&E via email which then means you don’t have to pay, she went over, was admitted within 2 hours and then spent 4 days in her own room with the very best of care. It was clean, cleaner than my old hospital in the UK and they did all the tests and came to a diagnosis……sorted ! But I digress, she sussed on right away “f**k this, I’m just getting the piss took out of me” She earns a great salary working from home and she was just shovelling it to some other c**t to get treated like shit. Its not right and it not fair mate, you and your Mrs work all your life and they just keep it…..bollocks that is mate. Edited August 15 by WILF 8

A few have said to me why don't your wife play on her health conditions and put in for a council bungalow in a decent area and sell the house like my mate as done and as luckily copped for a nice bungalow in a village called Thorpe hesley near me and is enjoying his retirement with a few bob in the bank. If only things were that simple my wife's problem is she's too fekin honest in today's world.

She was probably bought up a nice person who believes in the social order like we all was mate, nice in a way that she isn’t jaded and cynical like all us old miserable fuckers….can’t knock her for that. But it must be hard for you to see her treated that way when she has done what was asked all her life.

The French get out and protest and keep protesting. They spend 30% of GDP on their people ...health care, social care, pensions etc. We spend 20 %. Germany Spain, Italy Finland and others spend much more than we do. If Thatcher had not fiddled the books and tied state pensions to RPI, which was later cut again to CPI, pensions would be worth double than they are now. Just as important, in work benefits would also be double which would go a long way to tackle in work poverty and child poverty. The thing about us brits is that we do the government's work for them. People will say "oh we couldn't afford to double the state pension, or fix the social care system once and for all". But we could if we copied other countries. Its normal to be treated decently elsewhere in the developed world. Successive governments rely on us 'making do and mend'and putting up with shit. And I promised I would give up on political tub thumping and pissing everybody off. Sorry. I can't help it. Power to the people! Afterthought. I write to politicians all the time. Its a hobby in retirement. When the tories changed annual rises from RPI to CPI, I emailed lots of politicians pointing out the betrayal. We worked all our lives expecting RPI, not cheaper CPI. Rachel Reeves, then then the shadow chancellor wrote back to me and agreed it was a disgrace and Labour would immediately revert back to RPI. I've emailed her and reminded her of her pledge. No reply yet. Go figure. The British "Im all right jack, two fingers up to the rest of you" way and I admit I'm as guilty. I always think of the "first they came for the communists and I did not speak out" quote but just replace communist with people who earn 25k p/a, Socialists with 30k p/a etc etc. We've been saving like mad for 5 years now so we can finish up at 62 seeing us through to state pension age but looking less likely as not only do it look like they will plunder our savings at some stage but the state pension wont be worth a bean either. And dont get me started on my private pensions had a plan through for one I contributed in for 10 years a annual pittance so decided to take out the whole lot, they ended taking 3k in tax off me as It took me over the 50k p/a threshold. Just confirmed I was stage 1 Parkinsons last month every one saying jack in your job claim benefits but I still feel like Ive got something to give as Im only 57 and my head still tells me Im 27. Dont know why I come on here I was quite upbeat this morning

jukel123 7,957
I was well into my forties before having a foreign holiday. I couldn't believe what foreigners have and we don't. I was on holiday for a few days last week. I got talking to some Americans. What a life they have compared to ours. And the same is true of other Europeans. This country is run for the rich. Pensioners are just seen as parasites and an expensive nuisance for living so long. You can always rely on me and Wilf to lower the feel good factor on here.

Some of those Appalachian ex mining communities make ex pit towns in the uk look like the best place on earth. But in Europe, certainly I agree with Jukel, they are just living way better.

Things gradually improved until the lovely Mrs Thatcher decided the link between earnings and pensions should be broken and the state pension should be uprated every year by a measure of inflation: RPI ( the retail price index). This meant the state pension has declined in value markedly over the years. Roll on a few years and the generous tories declared RPI was too expensive a measure and should be changed to CPI ( the consumer price index). Guess what ? CPI is generally lower than RPI by one percent. So for every year since that change ( about ten years or so) we have lost one per cent. Along comes weasels Clegg and Cameron who introduced the triple lock. Pensions would now be uprated by the greater of 2.5 per cent, CPI or the increase in earnings. Until the generous Mr Sunak came along and declared he was going to double cross pensioners in a year when wages surged because the cost would be too expensive. So the triple lock is not worth the paper it is written on. Finally along comes a Labour Chancellor whose first move was to confiscate pensioners winter heating allowance. Which is why, barring Portugal ,we have the lowest pensions in Europe. All the above affect not only present day pensioners but future pensioners. Don't expect the state pension to be anywhere near enough to live on lads. Start saving now. As with everything in life mate the mistake is relying on someone else to look after you, we grow old clinging to a load of material shite like houses and cars and other fake gold only for the government to feed you a diet of shit that will lead to you loosing your marbles and ending life in a home were they can milk every last drop out of you, sell it all well you still have a bit about you and live a happy old life leaving nothing behind, how many old feckers end there days in one room of a big house unable to heat it waiting for socks to turn up with his sickle and take them away, that’s not living it’s just surviving the state will take care of you if you have nothing left wise up and play the game blaming Maggie and everyone else for our own mistakes is just a waste of energy, expect nothing from no one and you will never be disappointed 4
