Hibs bested Hearts in the Edinburgh derby Sunday. Not my team but I love when their fans sing Sunshine on Leith when they’ve got something to celebrate…, which isn’t often.

This is a tear jerker. Their 2016 cup win.

I have to say, I completely disagree…..I think keeping their cards in their pocket is to be encouraged.

I always start to wobble if you see early cards, wondering if a ref is going to ruin a game by then going absolute letter of the law and throwing cards about all over the show…..let’s not forget if you are going absolute letter of the law then these are decisions that rest on micro seconds and millimetres……and I think in a physical game you just can’t work it in a mechanical way like that, you have to have a bit of sense and a bit of judgement.

It’s why VAR is so shite, tackles that are in reality just a word or a booking are now becoming bookings and red cards when slowed down to thousandths of a second……players have been getting up and playing on for a 100 years from these challenges but now it’s red ? Nah

I seen a red card the other week, can’t remember which game, a perfectly buck shee holding mid field challenge that is the bread and butter of any No.6 in the world and slowed down he got the ball clean in the initial contact but his momentum rolls his foot over the top of the ball and he catches the opposing player (wearing these stupid non existent shin pads that the league seem perfectly happy to let players ware ??) above the ankle…..player was down for a minute, then bit of treatment and up again ??……never a red, in a million years ! But today it is !

Refs throwing cards about for every little thing will at best ruin a game and at worst make a game go very wrong and descend into chaos……..

Id personally like to seem them take a bit more action about players waring proper shin pads…..if it’s about protecting players, start there.

I agree, but the rules need to be clear and refereed to the rules, throughout the duration of the game, an even playing field for everyone. In the top flight anyway. There was a time in EPL when it was in danger of becoming a non-contact sport. Thankfully common sense prevailed. But this season we have a game of 2 halves, 30/40 minutes when men are allowed to play like men and then, once the ref starts to realise that the lads are "playing like men", he bottles it and starts giving out cards. That's where the frustration comes from with the players who play with a disciplined controlled aggression, after being on the receiving end of pussies taking liberties and getting away with it, they get carded 1st time they turn the tables. Then the non-contact bollocks rules come back into play.

Humans are different mate, that’s why we score referees from Sunday league to premier league…..except in Ireland and that’s why they are the worst I’ve ever seen !

As a Newcastle fan,the Anthony Gordon red card and missing the cup final has had time to sink in and thought about. I see it as a positive. We were always 2nd favourite in a 2 horse race. Yes, Newcastle are now a competent EPL side but still a level below LFC. Now we are the true underdogs. In the great tradition of English cup games the underdog sometimes prevails on the day. Wimbledon v LFC, Sunderland v Leeds as examples. I have faith. Should I be wrong it's going to a flat St. Patrick's day in the toon this year 🙂

Even better. Using my logic, to have any chance everyone of our players must now play as though it is a cup final. It always was, but over the years our players seemed to have missed that vital point. Starting in 1974 Newcastle v Liverpool, the 1st I remember, we were shocking and have been ever since in cup finals. I did once make a silly comment on here the Callum Wilson could enter the Newcastle history books as a more important player than Alan Shearer, Shearer never lifted a trophy for us, Wlison can make history on the 16th. That's the mind set that they should be going into the game with.
