Pretty sure Howe is the only English manager in the Premier league. I think they will win something soon. If they do Howe will be elevated above Shearer into Geordie sainthood.

I was talking to a geordie recently when on holiday. . He and his wife were football encyclopaedias. They used to flit between Sunderland and Newcastle matches but the bitterness became so bad they only attend Newcastle and Darlington now.

The bloke could remember a Man Utd player from the fifties the original 'Pancho' Pearson.(We have had another since.)

Pancho was  a psycho, violent player. As kids we used to mimic his headbutts, elbows, back headnuts and full on punches on  the way home from reserve matches. He did make it to the first team but didn't last long. The geordie lad said he remembered him fouling a Newcastle player around 57/8. He'd never forgiven him.

The proper Geordie side of my family were from the Teams, south of the Tyne but an area that would be regarded as a more NUFC than SAFC catchment area, to use a modern term. All of my Geordie family were good, if not very good footballers. Some became professional, most remained pitmen. But always football fans and it was a thing in those days that true football aficionados would to take in a home game at St. James' and the next at Roker Park, time, finances and wor lass permitting.

It was not until they all started dying, through old age nothing tragic, that I found out during the vicar's eulogy that their true allegiance was red and white not black and white. c**ts. RIP, God rest their souls.

Interesting stuff. I think the North East remains fertile soil for football lovers and young football, players. In other places that breeding ground has died out. I'm thinking Scotland.

Every English old first division club had a number of  Scots who often came from pit areas. There are very few Scots playing at top level now. I never see kids playing football now. Having said that , one of my brother's grandsons plays for his local under 14 team at 9 years old. He's sharp too, I asked him if Man U had tried to sign him yet and he said he wasn't interested. He's only interested in Real Madrid lol

That’s exactly what my grandson said when I asked if he wanted to play for Newcastle !

Cheers.

Agree about Rashford. He's beome "a big time Charlie". Fergie would have got rid as soon as his attitude dropped. Agree about Mainoo. But he's not thriving under Amorim and has been pulled a few times. Time for him to adapt to the new manager. Can't Agree about Fernandes. We would be knackered without him. Not proper captain material, but a class player.

I agree Fernandes is a class player mate and makes a huge difference to Manu when he plays but Manchester United was probably the only club where that wasn't the only important factor. Look at some of the players Fergie moved on in their prime for the better of the club. Van Nistelroy, Stam, Keane, Becks. Fernandes is a class player but not good for the club.

I have a contact on the inside at United and have been told since he came to the club there is massive clicks in the dressing room, it's like England used to be, where groups of players won't sit with each other etc. And Bruno is down as one of the instigators.

Top player.

Should be nowhere near the arm band.

Battle of Britain tomorrow night lads. Man U  v  Glasgow Rangers. Last time Rangers came to Manc 17 years back they unleashed, according to the cops, "the most violence and disorder since the blitz". The city centre was  wrecked.

I am therefore expecting all true born Englishmen together with right thinking Scots to be supporting Amorim's misfits tomorrow night. 'The Hun' as they are known this side of the border cannot win and must  not win. They must be disgraced and humiliated . Anything less and my life will be blighted.

I have fond memories of the 1969 Fairs Cup semi- final second leg between Newcastle and Rangers.

The first leg was a draw and when Newcastle went one nil up in the second leg, 10,000 jocks invaded the pitch in an attempt to abandon the game.

The police chief at the time said if he had enough men he would have arrested 20,000 people that day.

Newcastle went on to win and then won the final against Upjest Dozcia.

The last time we won a Cup Final.

Cheers.

Funny thing tribal loyalties. When Man U played Rangers on Thursday, I got two separate calls from old classmates from the 50's. Both were about Ranger fans managing to buy tickets for the Stretford End and causing mayhem provoking fights with Man U fans. I don't know how true it is but they said an eighty  year old had been taken to hospital and later died.

I felt like, even though I'm75 I should jump in my car and go and defend the Stretford End.Lol

In the end I went to bed with my cocoa.

There's always been aggro with Rangers and Man U. It might be religious, Man U  were originally a team that catholics supported because of Irish immigration around  the Docks area of Salford. As a result we've had first dibs on Celtic transfers, like Crerand, McClair and Lou Macari. But that awkward sod Kenny Dalgliesh opted for equally catholic Liverpool. Clown. He'd never win anything with them lol.
