this is really for us older generation, as it will be obvious, I know it's different times, less quarry, new laws, country full of do gooders, it's hard finding good well bred pups, getting good working stock ferrets is a challenge, do you think dogs of the past were a higher standard or are we just looking back through rose tinted glasses?

Luxury, when we bred a litter we had to drown all the pups barring one just to feed the thing.

We would loved to have drowned

When I say drowned, we had to use the waste water off the neighbour after she took her plug out the bath.

Fred , I think the quarry has adapted and less of it . I think dogs of yester year were fitter . Not necessarily better .

Fred, just my opinion but i would definetly say that dogs  and ferrets from a good few years were bred from proper working stock, that were bred by genuine working dog men that used the dogs on all sorts whether it was day light, lamping or coursing and wouldnt tolerate  stock that couldnt do the job they wanted them to do, they bred good honest worker to worker including terriers and ferrets, and were not money orientated and pumping litter and litter out of non working stock , and charging telephone numbers for them. the genuine dog men would cull hard . and would gift there dogs to mates and people they knew would work them to their true potential, sadly the times and standards have changed dramatically and not for the better and pressureis on us from all quarters, glad i walked the walk and loved every minute of it.
