We have finally turned the corner

Recommended Posts

I bred this bitch out of two of my better runners, the dam is bird dog breeding that induces GSP, /vista, and a couple of others I cannot recall, by a whippet dog and the sire was a Greyhound x Beardy/ GWP. I would have like to keep one of the two that has this rich brown colour, but I decided to keep a ruff coated black and white dog. The lady who brought this bitch and kept her till she was about 8 months old, by then she had an unexpected baby. So very quickly she realized that she only had a limited amount as she worked as well, so she decided to rehome the dog asap while it was still young. She placed an add-on the internet looking for a new home. I viewed the post and did nothing, a couple of weeks later I noticed a growth my young dog had as a wee pup had grown to a much bigger size under his tongue, so as I was in the vets with one of my ferrets and since I know the chief well I picked his brains and then after I took the dog into the vet. The dog had cancer he was unlikely to recover or even live for very long, I was of course gutted. The vet suggested I take him home and said when he gets real bad I hope you will do the right thing by the dog, to which a just nodded in case I shead a tear. The day rolled around quickly, one day was ok then the next he was lying down moaning, so I picked my rifle. I happen to be surfing the net a couple of weeks later, and I came across the add, stating that the bitch hadn't found a home yet so I sent her a message asking could I have her back, and she said that idea really pleased her, so about 18 months ago Hanna joined us. What I soon realized was she had no socialisation with other dogs, she seemed to think it was ok to run alongside another bitch growing and barking if the other bitch growled she would trigger a fight. Up to a couple of weeks ago, I hadn't taken much action other than stepping in, and most times she would go around me to continue the fight. I took to catching her by the collar and either making her sit so she came down off the upper level where her eyes were on fire, and she wasn't listening then one day as my little beagle x foxy jumped down out of the box she grabbed her, I yelled, and the wee dog had its escape. I looked down at my hand and saw that I had a Polly pipe in my hand, and I'd had enough, so a laid into her all, the while giving the command to leave it, at one point I was thinking about shooting her, I'd had a guts full. But there was something about this bitch, so since I knew she was really keen when chasing after a rabbit, but due to the real guns of the pack ,I doubted she had caught her own rabbit yet so that's what I set out to do, and by running her single-handed it didn't take long, within a very short period she had found something better than a fight. She has become a single thinking beast, find a rabbit, so her push out has become longer and better committing if the rabbit disappears, and now she takes time to track off without a rush with her switcheroo tail wagging non-stop. She has really turned the corner as she can stand right beside one of the bitches she hated, and she doesn't even notice, I'm not proud of wading in to her, but my angry words meant nothing to her as there was nothing at the end of them. A much younger, brainless me would have reached for the rifle months before I thought about it the other day. We have both been on a learning curve and I feel the sun on my back now, we're done it .......together. Pictured as an 8-week-old puppy then 9 months old, the black dog is the Sire who's feeling a tad under the weather after doing battle with a barbedwire fence (about the only time he's been hurt)and the bitch in question standing alongside her dam.IA bit of a wack from which she's recovered from now, is much better than a bullet she won't.
