Simoman 110
Has anybody got any ideas how to tempt rats into the open. At the moment they are in a grain store which is full of ton sacks of grain, these are impossible to shift and the dogs can't get inbetween them to catch the rats. Shining the lamp at night I can see them in the roof, running between the sacks but there is only one open area and they never seem to cross it. There was some rubbish outside the store and moving this uncovered a dozen or so. Ferrets are a no go as the rats have dug there warrens under the concrete yard. Would fish be any good as a bait? It would have to be something exiting to make a change from the grain. Any ideas appreciated Quote Link to post
Guest terrierbullpit
sounds to me like you will have to wait untill the grain is moved i dont see eny point in trying to lure them out with bait unless you are going to sit and weight and shoot them !!!! as for them being dug in under the concreite try a smoker [bANNED TEXT] it works best in them type of nests !!!! hope that helps you [bANNED TEXT] ............. Guest RobW71
You could set up a live Rat trap, Monarch or something like. I expect they've got plenty of food though. Regards Rob Quote Link to post
Guest Dillon
Soaked wheat mate, I did a pest control course back end of last year and this was found to be very effective, sit there and pop them off with an air rifle, it was in a wood mind, failing that I have found that the sparrow trap is the most effective as a multicatch. Nipper 0
Put something in the open for them to hide under, empty sacks or bales! Quote Link to post
Guest RobW71
Fustrating isn't it Simoman, we do a spud cold store, you and the terriers can see them between the trays off seed potatos. Regards Rob Quote Link to post
Simoman 110
Thanks for the ideas boys, think i'll try a couple of your suggestions. Yeah Rob it's bloody frustrating, the dog knows they are there but can't reach them and I could shoot them but to be honest I get more enjoyment from watching the dog work. What makes it worse is that there are loads of the buggers and the store is being demolished soon so bye bye permission All my rats over the years have been hard won from river banks, dykes etc and a good bag was anything in double figures. This is the first place where there is a chance of big (for me) numbers and it's going soon Quote Link to post
Guest RobW71
You might get one last bit of fun there, Demolition, there'll be rats everywhere. You'll need to set up some rick nets Regards Rob Quote Link to post
mouse 282
weve got a place where they make fishin bates .we have the same probs.put some terriers inside and some outside.as rats drop out the patts catch them.when they go under the concrete we put hosepipe down and flood them out.weve had some great sport and any the dogs miss the kids chase with sticks.45 rats in 2 hours is the best weve done.the daughter kept count Quote Link to post
Tarmac 1
i've been told, if you hang a ping pong ball or tennis ball, something like anyway, and smear it in peanut butter believe it or not, make sure its off the ground so the rats have to stand up for a taste...you'll be laughing, just sit tight and pick them off... Never tried it myself, but been told it works 'Rat-tastic' :11: Quote Link to post
