Gave it a solo run out of the traps and with a muzzle. It ran well and did a very respectable time.

Later on gave it another trial of a level break with a good non-ped racing whippet, again, out of traps with muzzles. A very good race over 150 yards with the lurcher coming from behind to be beaten by just half a length, again in a good time.

I enjoyed the morning and the craic, Max certainly knows his running dogs !

Where did the broken coat on max's bitch come from, is there deerhound in the coursing bred side of the breeding?

I may not have this quite right, but I know the sire is Sky Warrior who was one of the fastest non-ped whippets ever, and the dam, I think , was bred from one of Maxs greyhounds and a bitch from the coursing dogs Captain and Fettle. Fettle had a “woolly “ coat, possible from Bedlington in its line. I don’t think there was any deerhound in the line.

If I’m wrong , I’m sure Max will correct me.

Splodge fettle if I'm not mistaken charts.....the bitch kept from that was broken coated owned by maxs brother in law.....max then mated her to the pure grey England expects.....the bitch from that mating then went to the non ped

I wasn’t sure if it was Splodge or Captain, I knew Max had connections with both of them . 
So I wasn’t very far out .

This litter then produced the broken coated bitch I saw run today.

Fettles genes must be strong in the line to keep the coat going !

A lad I know and hunted with a few times owned Fettle as a pup but got rid as he didn’t like the coat !
