Whippet Dislocated Toe

Recommended Posts

Personally speaking from experience now don’t be in rush to have toe removed. You will see various posts where have people had toes off and dogs been fine. That was not my experience. But a lot will depend on the dogs working attitude and the ground you go on. Hindsight is a wonderful thing. Apparently if you do have a toe off it can be done in such a way as part is left to support the one next door.

Personally,...I would always seek out a genuine Running Dog Vet.... They are out there,...but you might have to travel in order to find the right man... .. Such experienced and knowledgeable

🤔Don't be too eager to consider amputation of a toe...in some cases, there is no other option, and then you have to do what is best.. However,..by the looks of your dog's toes in your post, I fee

they would knock them out to worm them now ££

Cheers, the vet today managed to get the nail off under local anaesthetic so think we will wait and see how it goes toe wise now. The vet was less keen on the idea to remove the toe now it's been back in place for 3-4 months. So we will now just wait I think and see how it goes, if it comes out again then maybe remove. I am just slightly concerned about arthritis risk further down the line if we leave the toe in after maybe 5-6 dislocations in total, the vet said she could already have it a little bit as she holds the paw up and sometimes seems to have a slight limp after running, or it could just be nothing and her guarding it after the injury. What happened to yours after the toe was taken off?

Short version she stormed up middle black thorn hedge in dark flat out and  stuffed next one along. Now that’s popping out. On lead five weeks popped out and now on lead further six weeks with it strapped to one next next. But she’s fooked basically but we will cope
