This has morphed into an interesting thread.

If  I were honest with myself I've never liked being  in charge. I like being high up in the pecking order but not top man.

I've never liked responsibility,I'd rather be hidden in the pack.

When I was a boss man I was aware I was a bit weak with guys I employed. I was too willing to accept excuses and forgive lies.

The education system is not a good preparation for leadership. Too much shut up and be quiet and undermining of confidence.

I also think being a younger brother has an effect on personality. You are conditioned to accept being second if you are a younger sibling whereas the opposite is true if you are first born.

Stats show that first born are more likely to be successful in life.

The only thing I've ever really put my hand to was trying to be a good family man. But you make mistakes however hard you try.

I can’t agree with any of that mate , but I’m not gonna argue.

I have an older brother and I would rather die than let him beat me in any way shape or form whether that was football or work or boozing or life in general.

100%, until my boys were born I was the youngest male member of my entire bloodline but a solitary one for various reasons…..as in, none of my older male relatives were in my life at all.

If anything it was motivational.

Stats are stats. And of course individual cases are the exception which prove the rule. Many effects on personality are not conscious, they are subconscious. I hospitalised one of my elder brothers. He was giving me grief and stole something from me. I warned him to give me it back or I would stab him. He refused so I followed through. Result a very bloody brother and a good hiding  from the old man lol

And of course I would compete to the death in sport with my brothers.  But when my dad was away for a while if there were any household problems I was more than happy to let my older brothers deal with it. I thought it was their responsibility not mine.

I politely refused to work on site this time so I'm in a workshop doing prefab for more money , last time I went on site it was painful, Irish outfit 90% Eastern European labour and loads of chancers from top to bottom , a couple of black hats tried to tell the guy I'm working for how to do something, he said something along the lines of you clueless watsits stay in your own ffing lane lol. I think if you prove yourself in your work you get a lot less agro and negotiating options. Because generally in my game the job is normally carried by half a dozen good skilled guys and the rest seem to mess up and do loads of rework or are disgruntled and bitter and would rather hang it out doing as little as possible. I've no issue at this stage of contracting laying down my demands it might be not working weekends or conditions or refusing to bodge a job or do it incorrectly. I also try and get a bit of travel etc. but to get a better deal you've got to work/give a bit of effort and hopefully produce a high quality job.

Now come on dd . You know full well that the obligatory clipboard that they all carry , gives them far more knowledge than the bloke that's been working on the tools every day for the last 30 years  😄.
