Its American obviously, but it’s a great insight into what a combat officer is dealing with and how he deals with it….it’s not just focused on the officer, but you see enough to get an idea. Yep I watched that ...it was good

I've got along with most of my managers over the years , especially the ones that most other people didn't like for some reason. I'm no kind of brown nose , and I've told one or two to go f**k themselves when they've treated me badly , but on the whole , I can rub along with most folks. I'm 56 in a few weeks , and I'm still in touch with the first boss I had when I left school , and not many weeks go by without a few texts . strangely enough , I told him to go f**k himself plenty of times when I was younger , and not quite as laid back as I am these days . More or less the same with me mate and the best manager I have worked under was when I first went into warehouse work 12 years ago with the same work ethic I had when hod carrying and scaffolding to get stuck in and get the fekin job done especially when it's job and knock. Only spat I had with him was when I was chosen again for a random drug test as he knew I would be clean of any illegal drugs in my system which I refused. The shift manager I work under now just wants to be everyone's best mate and other lads in the warehouse just take the piss with numerous smoke breaks which the said manager goes and joins them leaving a couple of us still grafting away to get the job done.

You identified the problem , and the problem was you , so you fixed that problem by getting more, education , knowledge, and understanding. A poor man manager , would have just stood there screaming at the lads that "he's the manager" , and they have to do what he says because " he's the manager " . That would have achieved nothing but resentment and poorer results for both sides . A good man manager understands people . Some people need a bit of carrot , some people need a bit of stick , and some people just need a smile , and a wink of recognition for their efforts. Every person is different. Some people are motivated , and some people aren't. A good man manager will be able to get the best out of everyone , by learning what that person needs , and what motivates them , and can do it without a big scene , and causing resentment. Well put mate , I’ve had plenty of those who use the rank as a right .

A lot of managers , just like being a manager , and like feeling important because of the job title . They forget that it's a job that comes with a lot of responsibility and hard work if you intend being a good manager .

Qbgrey 4,062
Lots of lads also mouth off, try to get the control onto them to do f**k all work, 3 or 4 lads giving the boss a hard time, making deals on what they will get then job n knock. These sorts are the ones who could never become self employed but then don’t like bieng told what to do. If you work for someone you will be told where to go, what to do, any specific customer requests, be respectful around peoples homes, clean up, be conscious if your cutting metal, dust etc near vehicles , etc ( I’m mainly on about construction here) if they won’t listen and do this then I tell them to f**k off not them telling me.

Task and finish is by far the greatest motivator of men that I've ever seen. Money is a motivator , but nowhere near as powerful as task and finish. The manager that tried to get you to take the drug test , was probably just trying to make things easy that day . He knew that you wouldn't have drugs in your system, so you were the way to do things the easy way. One of the places that I used to work , had security that would stop you , and search your car. Some of the lads would play holy f**k about it, and would spend 15 minutes arguing over it , but it never bothered me in the slightest . I would get searched most days( the security guard didn't actually search me , he'd just say, " ive already looked in your car mel(i always left it unlocked), can you just sign here" . I asked him one day if he always searched me because I didn't give him any grief , and his answer surprised me . He said , " no , if you want anything , you don't steal it , you just tell them you're taking it " . It made me chuckle .
Bakerboy 4,517
Sadly a lot of young lads are not in a position financially to walk away from jobs and some bosses know it and take full advantage of the fact

Pewit 970
Looking from things objectively it's all about give & take, trouble is with humans being naturally selfish it's more take. I've always had jobs that for the most part are job & knock and get payed guaranteed hours, we are happy to take the fliers but it's like getting blood from a stone if we ever get asked to stay over. We even moan if we have to do our payed hours. Lol
