I’ve often thought about importing dogs, ( I’ve actually imported three; two from Australia and one from Saudi, but they weren’t working dogs). So why import , well it would be more from the hear

I suppose riding them home would be better than chasing them all over the country to get them back……

Cheers.

So why import , well it would be more from the heart than the head, there’s nothing in this country that can’t be caught with our own types and breeds.

Years ago, imported Salukis added to the coursing dog, but would they add anything now ? I doubt it.

Staghounds from Australia ? I’ve seen them work and as impressive as they are, they are for the ground and quarry down there, probably not for here. They may add something, but I’m not sure what !

Staghounds from America ? Well, I’d have loved a pup or young dog from Dan Edwards Coyote Hounds, impressive dogs that do their jobs, but we don’t have coyotes here, and most decent lurchers will take a fox, so it would just have been a vanity project for me and I probably wouldn’t have been able to do the dog justice.

So, in conclusion, I’d say forget importing, just do your homework and only breed from dogs that are tried and tested at the job you intend using them for.

Just my opinion , of course.

Cheers.

I would’ve loved a dog sired by one of his stags ;)
