So even he agreed that democracy isn’t perfect, but it’s better than the other alternatives. I believe in the theory of “benevolent dictatorship” , but sadly a benevolent dictator would soon drop the “benevolent “. In the words of Lord Acton ; “ Power corrupts….absolute power corrupts absolutely “ ! So, on reflection, although democracy isn’t perfect, it’s worked pretty well since the ancient Greeks, and has seen off communism and fascism and dictatorship so I’ll stick with it for now ! Cheers. The inherent weakness in democracy I think must be us, the voter…..after all, we are the ones electing these total pricks. Ultimately it’s on us. So maybe we either need better leaders who are less democratic or better voters ?…….I’m going for option 2 ! In this day and age you can inform and educate yourself with your phone, in seconds…..there really is no excuse to be surprised or shocked or outraged. There is no excuse to keep making the same mistakes with the same people. Maybe if we don’t start doing better with the things we can control we will end up with something we can’t control ?…… Edited July 2, 2024 by WILF

I hope the political change over there does not curtail my options. Left, right, middle, upside down, up until now they seemed to have preserved a nice country. Thing is we are a tiny island, England is 50.30m2 and a population of 57million. France is 248.57m2 and has a population of 68 million. Easier to preserve a nice country when you have the room, we are packed in like sardines creating ghettos and shit holes!

I look at it like having the kennel space for let's say 4 dogs and if you cram 40 dogs into the same space you are going to get shed loads of problems like our country is witnessing now well most of us are but obviously not them who have let it get to the state it's in as they will live miles away from the madness of mass uncontrolled immigration.

Just a small point of order mate, but Britain is more like 70 million people and rising ! Something else interesting is that Germanys population is only a couple of million more than it was pre WW2 but ours is about 20 million more ! It doesn’t matter what anyones views are on immigration; if we don’t have the infrastructure; houses, schools, hospitals, GP’s, etc, to absorb these people, we simply cant keep expanding the population at the rate we currently are without risking a breakdown of society. The Tory’s are going out of business because the voters are going to bring in a Labour government, my guess it will be worse than even the Tory’s, but if everyone voted Reform it would terrify the Establishment and they might just start thinking !
