downsouth 7,202 Posted June 19 Report Share Posted June 19 I've warn glasses full time for over 25year since I was 23 and should have warn them since I was 7 but never did.My long range is terrible as I have bad astigmatism in both eyes which also meant that contacts were a no no.Then the last few years I've had to have varifocals as my close up reading is also f**ked now.ive got a couple of nice pairs of hand made frames which once you add my prescription both came out at around 700quid.Ive recently changed to really good independent optician after taking my missus there a couple of years back and realising hoe s**t the service is in the chai opticians,specsavers and vision express.My daughter also has an astigmatism and has to wear glasses full time since she was 4.I always tell her to pick water frames she wants and don't worry about the price as I know what it was like to have horrible glasses,Thats why I never wore mine as a kid. 2 Quote Link to post Share on other sites

And them and vision express won't put new prescriptions in an old pair of frames even of they were bought from them.Every 2years the c**ts would claim my prescription had altered just slightly then because of my prescription it would be extras for thinning down and extra for ant reflection blah blah blah till just my lenses were over 500quid.When I changed to the guy I use now my lenses were 350 and when I said what about all the other stuff he said"oh no because of this prescription I will automatically make sure they are thinned as much as possible and anti reflection and anti scratch.Also after trying loads of styles and explaining what I wanted he said "let me get something which I think will be perfect"went off and came back with a pair and he was bang on.The frames were over 4hundred nicker but he explained that if my prescription changes then he will just make new lenses for them.He also explained that the multiple designer frames that I bought from vision express are all made at the same place and are injection moulded and then just have the designers emblem put on them.Thats the diffence between using an independent who's owned his shop for 30years and dealing with some twat who's working in a franchise 1 Quote Link to post Share on other sites

When I got my first pair made by the fella that I now use.I put them on and honestly I couldn't remember ever seeing so well it was like I was seeing in HD.Makes me wonder if vision express were ever getting my prescription bang on.I while later I got him to make me another flash pair but a day or so later they didn't seem quite right so I went back and told him to which he said"thats strange because they are exactly the same prescription but it's you that's looking through them so leave them with me.A week later I went and got them and they were bang on and he explained that because of the slightly different shape of frame he altered the height where the lense changed from short to long distance.No questions asked.Hes even made me up some cheaper lenses and put them in old frames I had from vision express just for work on site.Youd never get service like that from the big franchise stores.C**ts get you through the door with 2 for 1 or second pair half price deals but then ramp the price up with all the extras which you should get anyway. 4 Quote Link to post Share on other sites

Got them online for just over €100 the both…..pick any designer frame you want or whatever suits, cheap as chips.
