And my ‘bottle jobs’ comment was probably a bit harsh but, whether it be individual performances or Southgate’s cautious approach, England’s big names failed to leave their mark on the tournament. I don’t even enjoy ramming failure down the throats of the average England fan (excepting maybe the 10 German bombers/boo your national anthem mob) it’s the relentless bullshit from media, with ex-players being the worst. The link below is just one example of the p!sh I am fed up paying to listen to.., a bit of humble pie will do the likes of Merson and those like him no harm at all. x.com X.COM Ahh, you know yourself most of these pundits are just saying stuff for effect mate…..same as the papers, it’s total f***ing nonsense half of it. It wasn’t unlucky, it wasn’t we lost to one in off the arse, it wasn’t a disallowed goal that should have been given….we just wasn’t as good as the other team, period. If we want to be better than these teams then we should go and be better, not cry after the event……excuses and football are a bad mixture.
eastcoast 4,115
For decades a common thread during usual the post - mortem after another England fail is that we need to learn from the countries that are beating us. The Germans, the French etc. What are they doing differently to us? It always used to be youth development. Everyone else was better at that than us. That can no longer be the reason. Young talent is recognised at an early age now, nurtured, developed and protected surely? Yes most of our players still ply their trade at home but have come through the ranks or been scouted or bought by EPL clubs that are some of the wealthiest in the world and can afford to buy the best in the world. They are there on merit. I blame the abject performances and ultimate fail purely on a myopically technically challenged manager. The wastefulness of the talent that he had at his disposal was criminal.
eastcoast 4,115
I was trying to not mention Anthony Gordon as I am admittedly very biased after watching him play fantastically all season for my home club. But, as the superb Cole Palmer changed things whenever he was brought on during the competition, we could have had the same thing on the left with Gordon. Those 2 changes with Toney or Watkins on 60 minutes and we could have been battering the opposition. In regard to Bellingham and Foden, another Lampard/Gerrard conundrum. The premier league maybe the hardest league in the world, but it puts way too much other bollocks on a level with or indeed above the actual football……the money is so big that the game itself suffers. Bellingham has managed his career brilliantly so far, young players need to play and they need to play in technically well educated teams where the emphasis is on the sport itself and I think he took himself to places where he was able to do that. I think this tournament highlighted that he is still a developing, young player despite the normal bollocks hype, his moments of brilliance counteracted by his moments of trying to overplay……it’s just the sign of a developing player learning his trade, he will be a machine at 28 if he keeps on track and there’s no better place to develop as a player than in a team with great players around you. Rooney is one of the most under appreciated players ever, he was a once in a generation player in my opinion. Completely agree about Saka, he is a one trick pony. The media hype things and I don’t think we bottled anything, we just lost to a better team and they had to pull out all the stops to beat us….no shame in that imho. Touching in the other posts: Gilmour has been a surprise and a bit gutting for me, I can’t believe how his career has fallen off a cliff…..what happened to that young player at Chelsea who made us all go “Holy f**k, who is this kid ?” I watched him play for Chelsea in that cup game I think it was and genuinely thought we were seeing the birth of one of the greats…..and then, nothing…..anonymity at Brighton and Norwich ?…..what the f**k happened there ? He 100% should have gone to Germany or Spain in a team like Athletico…….whoever is advising him needs a kick in the bollocks, his career has been a disaster for the young player we all witnessed at Chelsea that day. Went to Norwich because they were playing alright football at the time then were in a relegation battle where it was all just guts and glory that's no the wee mans type of football ..... potter bought him for Brighton and then got the Chelsea job a week or two later chances of that eh lol was frozen out at Brighton for a good bit then did brilliantly to work his way back into the team and started playing regularly again he's still only young so another big move in him yet a move abroad would do him no harm at all. footballs all about being in the right place at the right time you also need someone who believes and trusts in you

Absolute clowns ! League of Ireland has made great strides and continues to do so despite very little help from anywhere, it’s good real football…..you have a great team on your doorstep, my lads played against their youth academy, great set up ! Great coaches, great facility, great young players……but your small town napoleon who only ever came close to the troubles on the pub telly wants to talk about Bobby Sands whilst wearing a Paul Pogba shirt !
