If the contacts have been cleaned a few times using abrasive paper, somteimes they get a bit short, try folding piece of tin foil to a couple of mm thick and placing it in the cap before putting the battery in, make sure it's a snug fit round the edges, this takes up any slack and has worked for me a good few times. :D

The mk1 is a simple piece of kit mate,its just a pcb (printed circuit board) with components soldered in. Its most likely a component thats burn,t out like a resisteror or a capacitor. They are easy to diagnose with a test meter . Most small electronics hobby shops would repair them.

unfortunately its not the cap simon :11:  do the mk3 collars work with mk1 boxes and how much is it going to set me back.

no and no - afaik the mk3 s wont even work with mk 2's - doubt if either will work with a mk1

 

sure some shops will still have spare collars though
