tatsblisters 9,364
I have heard it can be a spectacular event though in all honesty i have never felt the urge to go and part of that is down to the shite and destruction some of the travelling community have left behind when they have camped up on public parks and football fields near me on their journey to Appleby.

jukel123 7,957
We took our best dog to race at Powderhall to run under NGRC rules and regs. We were confident he wouldn't disappoint. Into the trap he went, the trap gates swung open and he just stood looking bemused. The official said its obvious your dog has never chased this type of lure before. The lure was more of a ball than the ' hare' he normally chased which was longer and flapped about. We tried a few times to get him wedded to a ball effect lure but he wouldn't have it. 1

He told me that just after that act requiring licences for big cats he spotted two lynx in the lamp and shot one. He didn't think it was a big deal.

OldPhil 5,654
A few old pals are driving up Wednesday and staying locally in cottages....I've been before and had some good craic,. but nowadays I find the shouting, hollering and showboating to be a tad noisy and sadly predictable Spent a lot of time around traveling folk,....you get good and bad in most groups of people....I've some exciting memories and humorous anecdotes to remember,...and for all their failings,.. the tales of the genuine Romany Ryes,.. are never dull.. WILF 46,490
Used to go Horsmonden most years when I was little and that seems like it has remained a quieter, smaller affair.

Thats my mate, by the way, not me ! They said it was a “staghound”, deerhound/greyhound. It turned out to be one of the best lurchers I’ve ever seen, and up to date is the only one I’ve personally seen that took 100 rabbits in one night on the lamp. So yes, it IS possible to get a good dog from the gypsies. Cheers. Never knew Frank Zappa was into his dogs. Good man!
eastcoast 4,078
A few lads I used to know would make the pilgrimage every year. Load the lurchers and/or Bedlingtons into the pick up towing the caravan and after signing on would send their family holidays there. One of the few times a year that the dogs got out of kennels and the caravans moved out of the street. 2
