Camping with kids

Recommended Posts

Thinking of taking my kids camping for a couple of days when I have them next there only 7 n 5 n never done out like that before n me neither really especially when I was a kid.

There's fields I have access to but my youngest could get scared if in the middle of nowhere maybe even bored so I think it's good to have others around.

Does anyone know of any campsites in the lance area were they also allow you to make a little camp fire as they'll want to do that oh n tent ideas preferably ones that are not a feck about to put up thanks..

Can't speak for every campsite...but lots I've stopped at will let you have a fire pit ...them metal things ...and burn logs....most of them will hire them to you and sell bags of logs so if you don't have one or want to load one in your car it's ideal

Mate has just got a eurohike genus 400 airbeam tent for him and his boys, no poles, just pump and peg it for £250 from go outdoors. Airbeds to sleep on, sleeping bags but normal pillows. Double gas burner for cooking but use cartridge gas rather than bottles, I get 4 for £5.

Folding table/benches, kids can eat at it of play games.

Decent cooler box, most sites will freeze blocks for you. Alternatively you can get a 12v/240v cooler. I have a big one that runs on the mains overnight to chill down then runs on 12v wherever I'm driving. £90 from Halfords. Use plates and mugs, pots and utensils from home.

Get a couple of hanging rechargeable lights, get the boys a torch each for a night time walk.

Make it fun! If you can have a fire teach them to cook dampers or sausages on a stick.

So am I!

If I'm camping I go to south west Scotland. It's not that far....if you want recommendations I'll send you some. I go to one near Newton Stewart, old ruined castle, pub on site, sea over the road and heated outdoor pool 👍

You could do it cheaper but if the boys have a miserable time they won't want to go again. If they enjoy it they'll want to go again and there's no reason you can't go when the nippers are elsewhere. I take my youngest sometimes but I go far more often on my own, sometimes with the Tentbox but also wildcamping with a 2 man tent on the ebike.

There's plenty of campsites that have ponds or lakes to fish. I've found one near Dorchester that I can book a pitch right next to the swim I want, I'll probably take my grandson there for a few days.
