Come the revolution

recieved this email today about the soaring petrol prices......

See what you think and pass it on if you agree with it

We are hitting 106.9 pence a litre in some areas now, soon we will be faced with paying£1.10 a ltr. Philip Hollsworth offered this good idea:

This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the 'don't buy petrol on a certain day campaign that was going around last April or May! The oil companies just laughed at that because they knew we wouldn't continue to hurt ourselves by refusing to buy petrol. It was more of an inconvenience to us than it was a problem for them. BUT,whoever thought of this idea, has come up with a plan that can really work.

Please read it and join in!

Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us to think that the cost of a litre is CHEAP, we need to take aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS control the market place not sellers. With the price of petrol going up more each day, we consumers need to take action. The only way we are going to see the price of petrol come down is if we hit someone in the pocket by not purchasing their Petrol! And we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves. Here's the idea:

For the rest of this year DON'T purchase ANY petrol from the two biggest oil companies (which now are one), ESSO and BP.

If they are not selling any petrol, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit. But to have an impact we need to reach literally millions of Esso and BP petrol buyers. It's really simple to do!!

Now, don't wimp out at this point... keep reading and I'll explain how simple it is to reach millions of people!!

I am sending this note to a lot of people. If each of you send it to at least ten more (30 x 10 = 300)... and those 300 send it to at least ten more (300 x 10 = 3,000) ... and so on, by the time the message reaches the sixth generation of people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION consumers! If those three million get excited and pass this on to ten friends each, then 30 million people will have been contacted! If it goes one level further, you guessed it... ....

THREE HUNDRED MILLION PEOPLE!!!

Again, all You have to do is send this to 10 people. That's all.(and not buy at ESSO/BP) How long would all that take? If each of us sends this email out to ten more people within one day of receipt, all 300 MILLION people could conceivably be contacted within the next 8days!!! Acting together we can make a difference . If this makes sense to you, please pass this message on.

PLEASE HOLD OUT UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES

It's easy to make this happen. Just forward this email, and buy your petrol at Shell, Asda,Tesco, Sainsburys, Morrisons Jet etc.

i.e. boycott BP and Esso

SOUNDS LIKE A GOOD WAY OF MAKING THE MARKETS LISTEN TO THE BUYERS.

back in 1994-95 remember that shell oil platform that was to be sunk in that fuord(?) in norway? well myself and about 50 people across east anglia along with the backing of a well know environment group set about padlocking all the pumps on shell petrol stations in an attempt to hit them in their pockets......DIDNT DO A DAMN THING, COST THEM PENNIES

hopefull this will have a bigger effect and help us as customers out

im pretty biased about this because i dont drive and very rarley travel in viechles, rather walk everywhere, maybe if people left there veichles at home instead of consuming unnessacary fuel then there wouldnt be as much demand for it and prices would fall

Not always practical, I drive a 80 mile round trip daily just for work and where I live its so rural public transport is not an option. If I want to hunt its too far to walk etc etc etc......................

I have to agree with this; while in "theory" a boycot as above could work, and while we are seeing fuel companies post record profits; there businesses are in business to make money; ok, so to us mere mortals the total sums involved are beyond belief but the real vilains in this are the Government slapping huge taxes on the fuel. We pay more per litre in tax duty than we do for the fuel itself; the biggest portion of each and every increase goes into the Government's coffers not the oil companies.....

......with the world economy the way it is; conflict in many OPEC nations where large scale oil is produced, the price of the dollar falling on the global market and the ever popular war on terror (bolox); the cost per brl of crude has risen, so that has had some efect at the pumps, but neglegable in comparison to the duty raises. But even these reasons are Government related.

So sure, the oil firms are making money, lots and lots of it; but its the Government that are pushing the prices up unecesseraly. We pay duty when we buy a car, we pay dudy to drive a car on the road, we pay duty on maintaining the car, we pay duty on repairs if we crash the car, we pay when we insure the car.......and we pay duty through the nose when we put fuel in the car.......oh, and did I mention that we pay a duty to drive in city centres now too!!

Its simple; they want us out of cars.......actually the don't; what they know is we will never totally give our cars and freedome up, so for now they can continue to tax us (ordinary folk, everyone with a car) because we are a piss easy source of revenue, piss easy. Thats why there have never and will never be a REAL alternative to the freedom and practicality of car ownership. Thats why there will always be similar increases on duty on cleaner fuel; its a money earner, nothing to do with persuading us to use cleaner fuel, or use our cars less; its all talk; to keep the greener brigade happy while they do as little as possible to encourace real cleaner efficient transport and rape our back pockets of easy money.
