Yess pal I use a rangefinder, use to use it when practicing shooting at distance with my cattys. So has come in real handy while learning the slingbow. And ten yards would be ideal shot range , if we was in certain states in America were it's legal to hunt with a slingbow. Looks like the ideal way to shoot them is from a blind or tree stand and max range 20 meters of so. Would love to go abroad with an outfitter and do it. I find all the large game bow hunting on YouTube very exciting to watch. I was recently looking at mechanical broadheads. All very interesting stuff. Finally " while eating my Greggs " you ........Heathen lol. Get to a proper small old fashioned bakery and spend ya dollar on proper pies and pasties.
Greyman 28,162
Nice thread Leo sorry not popped in for a bit, I do like a sling bow as you know I have made a few mainly because it’s a lot more discreet than wandering around looking like Robin Hood in a country lifting with antis, and goody goody’s never had a shop bought one but the old Diablo is a real easy conversion would love to get me a pig with one like you say 15/20 metres it’s proper hunting the real skill is getting close to your quarry quite fancy making a starship version as they make quite a lot more power than a normal catty

Them diablos look cool and bombproof and the starship should in theory generate more power. Got to admit I've really shortened the bands on mine to get as much power as possible, and there's no way I'm pulling this back regular with my fred elliot fingers, so the archery release aid makes it ten times easier and I get a good practice session in with out it fooking my shoulder up ! I always thought they was a bit of a gimmick, but I am proper impressed ! Coz at the end of the day it's just a catty , but can hurl a arrow with a devastating broadhead attached and wack into a target with some clout at 20 meters. Not bad for a catty or kids toy some would have you believe.
Leo Sayer 2,336
So for a bit of fun I purchased a reel seat and put a fishing reel on the slingbow. And purchased some slider things for the arrows. And had a crack at shooting beer cans in front of the kennels and reeling the cans back to me. Thinking that on my permission is a small river and I might make some floating targets and practice at hitting them on the move on the river and reeling them back into me for a bit of a crack and fun and summat a bit different than just practicing on the bag .
Leo Sayer 2,336
Next I got the slider things that you tie your line onto and then I drilled a small hole in the shaft of arrow and fitted a bolt ( am yet to put epoxy glue round bolts yet ) this bolt asks as a stop for your slider so you can reel targets inn

Leo Sayer 2,336
Had a practice sesh today and tubes snapped on me, I thought a little premature tbh. So I emailed Simple Shot in the states , had a response within 15 minutes. They said the bands should have lasted longer. They said they would send me a free set out as compliments. Within another 15 mins an email they had processed the order. Absolutely outstanding customer service!! If only other companies were the same. I can’t recommend simple shot enough. Above and beyond.
Leo Sayer 2,336
Was up early as usual so decided to have a practice in dark under my head torch. Was shooting a beer can at 10 meters . Was good fun and enjoyed it, was bit different to aim with torch light on forks, but got used to it . Just waiting for daybreak then out with the catty and dog for a mooch .
