DIDO.1 22,840
Out with the dogs tonight and the young lad has let go of the lead and the terrier has run in the road and been clipped by a car. The dog has run into the side of the car as it slammed on. I don't think it's anything serious, knocked a tooth out. Took it to the vets and they have said it's got a cut behind it's front lip, between it's lip and front teeth. They want it in tomorrow to stitch it , x-ray, IV antibiotics etc etc. They actually wanted it to be taken in to their out of hours vets tonight to keep it under observation. We took it home. They say it needs stitching so food doesn't go from it's mouth, into it's nose and then into it's breathing and lungs. Minimum £1000! Got to be done under general anaesthetic. Now don't pre judge the money grabbing barstewards.....but I'm thinking just leave it. It's had a jab of antibiotics and painkillers. I've got a bottle of painkillers at home. The spot between the lip and teeth is naturally closed, it's not open and bleeding, I reckon it will close up itself. I may let them pull the snapped tooth out at some point as I don't like leaving broken teeth. Thinking about all the terriers we have stitched up....rat bites etc. nothing that a couple of jabs and a bit of rest haven't cleared up. It's 90% a pet, I've got the money, but something isn't sitting right with paying a grand for a few stitches Genuinely, without just ranting about the money grabbing c**ts, what do you think? I've seen terriers that looked like a hand grenade had gone off in there mouth come back to perfect in a few weeks with the right home care. Keep an eye for infection and have antibiotics at hand if needed, keep clean and flush with salty water a couple of times a day and it'll be grand and not cost a grand. 9

Don’t know what type or temperament the terrier is but I personally wouldn’t bother…..terriers are as tough as old boots. As Dogman says, their ability to recover with just a bit of common sense care is remarkable as I’m sure you know. It will be right as ninepence in a week.

I'm not saying I have money (I just live cheaply) but I could pay for it, but how would an average family with kids or a mortgage pull a fckin grand out of their hat. Or an old person on their own with only a pet for company.

This is how they are having people all the time mate, it’s ok for you because you are clued on but your average pet keeper is getting their pants pulled down by these c**ts all the time

But it's the mrs's baby and kids are upset.... and you just listen to vets don't you, like solicitors.....you know they are bending you over without lube but they see weakness and move in for the financial kill. 1

Working dog lads round here were very lucky to have a vet that was on our side and would treat working dog injuries no matter the cause and charge peanuts, sell you what ever you needed at what seemed to be a lose or at least cost price, he'll be badly missed when he retires. He'd of had your dog treated and out the door for less than 40 quid. Lol.
gnipper 6,484
Mouths heal quick and from what you've described I'd say she would be fine. Vets must rub their hands when they see something like that coming in the robbing b*****ds. 2

mushroom 13,004
Same shit here mate. Dickhead sliced top of his wrist a few years ago, imo all needed was a couple of staples. Took him to the nearest vets as mine is is a bit away. Cnut starts barking on about antibs', stitches, anesthetic and overnight stays... think it was around 600€ he wanted. Told him to f**k off, I'm not paying for his new Audi... Took him to my normal vets, he took one look and said "grapas no?" (staples) 15€ is all it cost me!

pesky1972 5,300
Daylight robbery is the name of the game now. I reckon most pet owners take out insurance in case they ever have to visit the vet, as they know it’ll cost an arm and a leg. Vets know that the insurance companies are coughing for the bill so will rinse it for everything they can get. The ones that suffer most are those that can’t afford insurance nor the bill when they wind up at the vet. Think it must be what healthcare in the US feels like.., and where the UK is heading once they start selling off the NHS. mackay 3,383
Did I read somewhere that 60 odd percent of vets are now owned by five big companies ?.
